New Canadian Politics Thread

I don’t think Trudeau should negotiate anything with the protesters but Possibly he could meet with one or two of the saner organizers and listen without calling them names. No commitments, need to be made. I honestly don’t know if it would satisfy some but it might be worth a try or it might just be a waste of time.

Today Jagmeet Singh called for an emergency debate of parliament and that is taking place now.

As a side note it has been much quieter today and at present I can’t hear any honking.

This isn't that fucking complicated. You don't need to make some grand political stand. There's a pile of laws and by laws being broken, fucking enforce them and most of this problem will sort itself out. You have a noise ordinance (a db limit during the day, and a disturbance based system after 11pm), fucking use it. You have parking laws, enforce them, etc. This really isn't complicated. Like in most "movements", there's a whole lot of pretenders surrounding the real ones. The first goal is to dissuade those not fully committed from sticking around.

The most concerning thing to me is the amount of clips I've seen with huge amounts of fuel being brought in and very little being done to stop it. Amount of large vehicles being involved near the capitol is pretty concerning too really re: potential for vehicle attacks, etc. I'm stunned they've let this go this far.

Just an add on. I would bet that at least 60 - 70 percent this weekends protesters had nothing in common or knew what the truckers were demanding. They are just tired of the needed restrictions.

Also to note today has been so much quieter in my residential neighbourhood today that it was almost spooky. 🤫
The group of drivers at the corner of my street were standing around and blocking the sidewalk and I just motioned for them to move, they apologized, and moved to the side. That was an unexpected surprise. Of course what May have influenced them was about six feet away my city councillor was standing there watching/monitoring the actions of truckers.

in any case it was a much more comfortable but still annoying day in the neighbourhood.

Um, holy shit, I just searched Peter Sloly on Twitter and even though I think he’s made mistakes in the response here… wowwww are the convoy folks ever looney tunes about him.

And an insane amount of American “patriots” tweeting about him.

The MAGAs in particular, which is no bueno. Need to get them refocused on Denny’s big slam and duck dynasty reruns.

Yeah, the last thing we need is the MAGA's putting a sustained effort into making us the next beachhead in their culture wars. Especially when a small, but very loud, assholish and angry percentage of Canada's population are their ideological brethren and will be happy to collaborate with them and take whatever material support they're willing to offer.

But this is the problem with living next door to a superpower in its death throes. Very difficult to get through that experience unscathed.
