New Canadian Politics Thread

not that he was the most credible before, but it's going to be a real tough sell next time he starts condeming racial injustice.

he's got a whole lotta work to do, and it may never be enough,

It looks like they're gonna start dolling out all kinds of progressive promises. I'm sure you saw the ban an assault rifles promise (apparently given while being innundated with questions about racism ... lol).

to be fair, I'm sure the assault rifle ban has been in the works for a while now. it's a pretty big issue right now, and a stark contrast between parties.

I mean, there was stuff before this (re: semi-auto rifles), but Marc Lepine mowed down 14 women in 1989. The Liberals set up the gun registry, which the Cons then abolished. They should have just banned the fucking things ages ago. Certainly, if they weren't worried about losing the soft Con vote, the latest Liberals would have just re-instituted the registry or, more simply, introduced a ban. They had 4 years to do it but only now say they're going to.

Colour me cynical.

He always struck me as a privileged jerk riding his fathers coat tails. I think Canada can do better that Trudeau.

We can. Just not with the crop that is currently running for PM

I like Singh though. Seems like a genuine guy

And this gets at something that uber bugs me about Liberals. In opposition, they'll scream bloody murder about this shit when it's being done and then do nothing to reverse it when they get power. They just build off the rightward drift and keep it going. They did worse with the Saudi arms deal. Opposed it in opposition and then spent millions defending it when it power.

And, not to use a tarbrush, Mcguinty's government actually did reverse some of the really draconian shit the Tories put in place (e.g., starvation welfare rates, eviction-enabling tenant legislation). But it didn't go nearly far enough.

Hes going to play the "the person I was then isn't who I am now" card really hard.

I'll rephrase - predominantly centrist with left-wing leanings.

I mean I can think of maybe one person on here who would consider voting conservative this election, and then a whole bunch who would consider any of the three parties on the left. Of course I'm making some assumptions here, but I don't think they're unreasonable.

If the forum's political threads were to be characterized as either left-leaning or right-leaning, I would definitely go with left-leaning.

My original point still stands though. I'm even okay expanding it to more diverse opinions on both sides of the spectrum.

I am conservative through and through.
But I dont bother trying to discuss issues. Let habsy get crucified lol.

?

Here or generally? Did you read the posts?

Generally. I've seen condemnation sure but I've seen plenty of excuses from media on both sides of the border on this. It's good to read that people see the inherent hypocrisy that is Justin Trudeau.

I have no excuses for him. The dude’s clearly a bimbo with pretty poor judgement. And you could definitely throw in “hypocrite” too.

If you want to present yourself as a crusader for equality, you should really be open and up front about any skeletons you have in your own closet, and the personal growth you yourself have had to go through. Instead of burying it and hoping it never comes up.

In my ideal world, Trudeau would be replaced as Liberal leader.

That said, I’m more willing than you to settle for the best of a couple of bad options, and less willing to throw away my vote in protest.

So, if it comes down to a choice between a Trudeau-led Liberal party and a Scheer-led Conservative party, it’s an easy choice for me.

The differences of opinion I have with Scheer or social, environmental & economic policy are just too stark.

And Scheer’s a hypocrite of the highest order too. The standard he’s set for his own candidates is that a simple apology is enough to wash out any past racism. And then he has the former news director of the Canadian equivalent of Breitbart running his own campaign.
