New Canadian Politics Thread

I don't know enough about Scheer to opine.

I can fully relate to your position however.

the thing to remember here is that nobody really believes trudeau is a racist, and everybody knows that he was a privileged private school kid.

so this comes back to issues of his maturity and judgement.

It is hilarious that many here will jump on the anti scheer wagon and profess him to be this great evil that will destroy all that we value and create this racial divide that will be the ruin of the very fabric of our society.

Yet here we have old justin ..... black faced, turban wearing, aboriginal dieting justin.
Who was a condescendingly smug prick to grassy narrows and their water issues.

He who is responsible for the problems with SNC, with our transfer payments, with our forces and generals. Interference for the GG.
And that is just a fraction of his work.

His flirting with the environmental community is a joke at best .... he does more damage to the environment in this one term than most of us will do in a lifetime.

Liberals version of trump.

Like Trudeau texting trevor Noah to offer 20 million .....
Trudeau is our trump .... our turtle on the post.

He didnt get there by himself,
He doesn't know how he got there.
And he has no idea what to do now he is up there.

Jmho lol

Regardless, the optics of hypocrisy is heavy. You can’t just apologize this away and continue to pretend you’re a SJW.

Easy mate. He’s a tool of the first order IMO but not in the same stratosphere as Trump. Trumps ego and BS is so large it has its own gravity that sucks the rest of the world in.

Hahahaha

I'm not sure they couldn't just replace him right now and be fine, tbh.

Problem is, there's no time for any kind of leadership contest in the middle of an election.

They'd either have to just appoint someone that the overwhelming majority of LPC members & candidates would be happy with (which, based on the history of LPC leadership fights, seems exceedingly unlikely), or they'd have to have a "substitute teacher" of a leader that would carry them through this election and then promise to step aside once a new leader is chosen.

Neither option is good, and both have more than a bit of undemocratic stench. If the Liberals win, you'd either have a PM that wasn't chosen by the party membership, or you'd have a temp PM followed by a PM getting chosen by a Liberal leadership convention instead of a general election.

ok so the pics went public on the evening of the 18th.

Pre:

Leger/CP 13th-17th: 34% L, 33% C, 12% N
Nanos/CTV 15th-17th: 36% L, 37% C, 14% N
Nanos/CTV 16th-18th: 35% L, 38% C, 12% N

Mid:

Nanos/CTV 17th-19th: 34% L, 37% C, 13% N
Nanos/CTV 18th-20th: 32% L, 37% C, 14% N

Post:

Nanos/CTV 19th-21st: 33% L, 36% C, 14% N
Forum/Star 19th-21st: 33% L, 33% C, 11% N
Abacus Data 18th-22nd: 32% L, 34% C, 15% N
Nanos/CTV 20th-22nd: 33% L, 34% C, 13% N

weird numbers.

Libs seem to have taken a bit of a hit from ~35% to ~33%.

But the Cons seem to have taken an even bigger hit from about ~37% to ~34%.

338 Polls - 9/22/19

Libs
60.8% Most Seats
38.9% Majority
21.9% Minority

CPC
38.5% Most Seats
17% Majority
21.8% Minority

A separate poll conducted by Nanos and released on the weekend shows more people are now “unsure” who would make the best PM. However, these new numbers also don’t show any major move in the positions of any party in the scandal’s wake. The Nanos poll used a three-day random phone survey of 400 voters per evening.

Some 42 per cent of those polled by Abacus said they weren’t really bothered by seeing the PM caught in brownface and blackface, and 34 per cent said they didn’t like it but accepted his apology and could get over it.

Almost one-quarter — two-thirds of whom were Conservative voters — said they were “truly offended” and that it damaged their view of the PM

A big fat meh.

Meh, it's just as hilarious watching Liberal supporters bend over backwards to explain why this is no big deal for Mr Peoplekind. Shit is team sports. Selective outrage at its finest.

Oh yeah, always about cheering for laundry, not about the individuals. I mean, we can justify it by stuff like, "I really like the Libs plan for pharma and hate the Con housing strategy" or whatever, but generally speaking, for so many of the partisans, they'll probably even change their support of policy positions based on which party proposes them. The number of Libs who are all for beer and wine at Sobeys, but suddenly against it being available at 7/11 because Doug proposes that gets annoying.

A year of Ford should be enough to keep them red.

Yeah, really the best thing to happen to the Federal Libs all year. You gain a couple former provincial Liberal MPPs to run federally, and you can rally the rest of the Ontario progressives as you link Scheer and Ford together.
