No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

####.png

1. The 1st line is dropping down into legit mediocrity. The problem is we don't want to fuck with either of the next two lines.

2. The 2nd line is one of the very best lines in hockey.

3. The nerdies are starting to love the 3rd line now as much as the scoring liked them from the start.

4. This Gio-McCabe pairing is throwing me for a loop. They've been absolutely dominant together in pretty tough big minute 2nd pairing usage. It's going to be tough to split them up when we're healthy. And it's hard not to think this says something about McCabe having no issue playing the right side, and it might even be his better side. Also, reports of Gio's death were premature.

5. Hilarious how the defense suddenly looks really good on the chart from top to bottom with no Klingberg pairings in there.

Such a weird year. At this point do they only suck because Matthews and Marner haven't been the same? D seems fine without Kling and middle six forwards look great.

Top pair could be better tho. Aim high, Tre. Don't waste your cap space on a depth d. They don't need that. They have a million capable 4/5/6/7/8 guys.

If my math is correct, in 4 games without Klingberg the leafs have a 60.6xgf%.

Albeit against poor xgf teams. but still nice.

#19 CGY 49.4% (66.5% for Tor this game)
#21 DET 49.1% (66.0%)
#23 MIN 48.6% (35.8%)
#31 CHI 41.1% (68.6%)

The last two games angered me a lot. Mostly because they were shit vs Minnesota and loserish vs Chicago. Most of their xgf yesterday came in the first like 5 minutes, they had like 10 point blank shots. Then they let off the gas pedal for no fucking reason.

But still looks good with the exception of the Minnesota game. And that's without the first line being the pillar that it has been for years.

Tonight is a big test. Penguins are better than their record suggests.

Domi: 0gl/50pt pace
Robby: 35gl/59pt pace
Krok: 23gl/46pt pace

And over 65xgf% as a line so far.

Might be the best 3rd line we've had in a long while.
What’s interesting is how much better domi looks defensively at centre* (vs bottom 6 guys) than the wing. That line plays such fast hockey and are a good mix together.

yeah his whole game transformed at C. rare that you see a guy so much more suited for C than W.

and to add to your "fast hockey" comment, it's a bit weird for a guy with his skillset but it seems like he's not much of a PP player, and much more dangerous when using his speed at even strength.

I still have reservations about him at C, but we shouldn't forget that the Stars went to the 3rd round last year with Domi playing mostly C for them, and he was their joint top scorer at evens in the playoffs. And he was getting much more ice time for the Stars than he's getting with us.
