No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

Thing is he's not wrong about him not being what Brad wants at 3C.

But that means he's basing his entire argument on what he thinks Brad wants, and not actually analyzing what Domi is doing on the ice.
HTF do we even know what Brad wants as a 3c? The man obviously enjoys the worst pizza known to man, which nobody other than his father would understand, so it’s beyond us to know what he wants from a third line c. He’s an enigma.

He's been at C since the Tampa game I think, 13 points in 18 games since the move if so.
Yeah, his PPG pace is surely a lot better as a C, and bolsters the case for him at that position, I guess.

It's an uncomfortable situation, because he's tough to get a good read on. He was terrible before this change, very good since the change, yet still not someone that I want defensively down the middle, and surely not someone I feel good about replacing either of the top two centers in case of injury. And yet, if he plays like what I saw of him in the playoffs last year, that would be an incredible add.

Conclusion would seem to be to clearly just keep him and hope for the best, but have a different plan that moving him up to play in the top 6 in the event of injuries.

Biggest thing imo has nothing to do with Domi individually. We're rolling a 3rd line out there that is doing a lot more good than harm. Robbie-Domi-Jarnkrok has been flat out good as a 3rd line trio. If you have to shelter them, fuck it, who cares (and I'd argue you don't have to shelter them much...Robbie is at least okay defensively, Jarnkrok is really good and if Domi is meh or worse defensively, they're fine overall as a group).

If the line is working, and producing good results overall, why do we care how it's getting to those results?

Truly, the top 9 has never looked as good as it does right now since at least the Sundin/Mogilny teams, and I can't even remember who we had on the third line back then, just that we were pretty deep.

And Gregor and McMann are more than fine for me on the fourth line too. If we can get a better guy, great, but as wingers, I think they're about as good as you're going to do without paying third line money for someone.

The big glaring weak link on the team is Kampf, and sadly they're not going to do anything about it, and Keefe will play him more than he has any reason to do. Only injury will move him out. And heaven forbid Reaves heals up and moves back in.

They have played 18 games together, have a 56.7 xgf% and are the Leafs 2nd best line defensively. I’m favourable usage sure, but there is literally no problem there. Kampfs line is the conundrum. And Jonas’ ego.

So tops of the 3Cs, would be top-25% of the 2Cs, and is above a quarter of the 1Cs.

And Domi gets less ice time than EVERY SINGLE other name listed here.

What Siegel and others should be complaining about is that Domi isn't getting enough ice time.

Brad made a comment a couple weeks ago that it sure sounded like he slipped he wanted a 3C.

He's only been playing center for what though, like 30% of the games played so far? I think half of his points were from the wing before, no?

He made the switch to C in game 12.

Gms 1-11 (W): 11gms, 0gls, 4pts (0gl/30pt pace)
Gms 12-29 (C): 18gms, 2gls, 13pts (9gl/59pt pace)

When the "4c" is getting more icetime than the "3c" that says a lot about the 3c and how content they are with him I think. There's enough ice time for Domi, but yeah it requires giving the 2.4m dollar man less ice time.

well, getting more because of special teams.

EV

Matthews 17:07
Tavares 15:32
Domi 11:43 (+1:03 pp)
Kampf 10:38 (+2:24 pk)

Getting Domi more ice time would need Keefe to condemn Kampf to true 4th line usage at evens, like 5-7 minutes, which I don't think is something he ever wants to do, and why Kampf got his contract.

Which is exactly what I mean, yeah. There's more ice time for him out there; Matthews and Tavares aren't whats blocking him. But it requires giving his 4c actual 4c usage. Which like you said, he won't for now.

and tbh i don't mind too much. Kampf getting the extra dzone starts is mostly fine i think. but that's only assuming reaves was a big part of Kampf's putrid metrics so far. if he can't improve on those without reaves then keeping playing him like this will only hurt us.
