No Excuses No Limits! The mother fucking goddamn season thread

That's the part that's so disappointing with Keefe. He's just afraid to play young inexperienced players. I never thought that would be an issue with him when he was hired.
We've lots a lot of development time with our young players,

There's this stupid pervasive idea in Toronto that a certain type of hockey wins titles, but every year we see teams that don't build their team that way winning titles.

Where's the big physical hitters on the Vegas blueline? The Avs had one guy, Josh Manson who was remotely physical. Lots of speed, skill and puck moving though. Tampa had Cernak and the occasional rando #6-7 (Schenn mostly...Bogo really isn't "physical" in the way our media means when they talk about it).

The thing about the physical defenders on the cup winners though is none of them are shit. Manson is a solid defender, Cernak is a solid defender. Those guys are good, valuable defenders. Similar to McCabe here. Nothing wrong with having 1-2 of those guys. None of those winners were trying to run Lyubushkin's out there and there's a near 100% certainty that Numbnuts is going to run a Rielly-Lyubushkin pairing out in the playoffs.

Even Steve fucking Simmons is ripping on this move, thats how dumb it is.

The notion that the Toronto media/pressure is harder on rookies is absurd. Youve lost for so long no one gets a free ride anymore.

We are playing guys like ZAR and Gregor, who were cast-offs of bottom-feeders over our young talent. It's fucking stupid. Gregor won't be in the NHL next year. And please tell me why we stopped using Holmberg last year?

No, not a shutdown role. But he does feel that Mo needs a babysitter which is not the worst take in the world. Where he loses me is that he feels that his babysitter should be the worst defensman in the NHL.

I actually dislike the "Mo needs a babysitter" bit. Mo just needs defensive sheltering (like most of the top 20 offensive defenders in hockey). He's played great hockey with guys who aren't defence first/only babysitter types.

He played some of the best hockey in his career with Schenn. I didn't realize it at the time, but that may have been the worst thing that could ever happen. The annual "acquire a fucking slug to play with Mo" tradition was bound to continue this year.

Boosh is the answer you get when you ask a stupid Boomer what a good defensive D is, or at least the qualities Bush has or the boomer thinks he has.

Fwiw, among defenders with 1000 5v5 minutes (aka, #1 defenders) Mo is 18th in P/60 (4th in primary apples) with 1.14 P/60. There are 23 defenders in the NHL with 1000+ minutes and 1.0+ P/60. Among that group, Mo is 6th in defensive zone starts.

Hanifin, Faber, Letang, Forsling, & Dobson are the only ones ahead of him from that 1.0+ P/60 group.

He's also played excellent next to Lilly and others.

He just needs a hockey player next to him. Doesn't have to be a defensive "specialist" or a certain type of defender. Just one that can play.

I get that we needed another body asap. This move probably suggests that Gio is toast for the year or at least for the next 4-8 weeks.

What irks me though is that Lyubushkin is terrible, and doesn't actually help anything. If you just need a body with some NHL reps, there's lots of #7-8 guys out there who are also shit but that you could get for a half hearted handjob. You don't trust Villeneuve or Niemela to get NHL reps yet while you sort out the addition of guys who can play higher up the lineup? Fine. Go get another AAAA guy like Lagesson, because let's be clear...Lyubushkin is also a AAAA guy, he's just one who hasn't played his way out of the league yet but was well on his way to it after quickly playing his way down the depth chart of two bottom dwelling teams.
yeah is Boosh any better than Laggy?

Benoit has proven himself to be way better than Boosh could ever hope.

fuck, what a terrible fucking trade.
