You make it sound like you can just wave a wand and acquire whoever you want. But in waving the wand, you often end up with Marleau, Bertuzzi, Klingberg, and others you wish you didn't sign. Who says you're going to come close to duplicating Tavares production with these other nickel and dime acquisitions? But why would we want that when Kadri has proven since he left that when given the opportunity as a top 6 centre that he's JT's equal?
Why not take the much cheaper guy who is as good as the more expensive guy and then make the rest of the roster better rather than nerfing Kadri's career for no real reason.
Matthews-Kadri-Danault would have cost us less than Matthews-Tavares-Kampf ended up costing, and yes the reason we forced Kampf into that role was in the hopes of having a defensive matchup centre at a discount.
You keep acting like having Tavares is a bad thing. It's a great thing. And if they were smart enough to retain Hyman and audacious enough to keep Kadri around, we'd probably be talking about a multiple cup winning team rather than your crazy obsession over Tavares being paid more than market rate, despite having taken a lesser offer than was on the table for him.
