Yeah, I’m really struggling with why you wouldn’t just shut him down, get him whatever surgery he needs and bring him back when he’s actually healthy.

And if he plays hurt through the NHL’s stupid, half-assed World Cup tournament, every single person in the Leaf front office should be fired. And I’d also have to seriously question Auston’s commitment to winning in the playoffs here.

In theory, we could pull a Tampa/Kucherov or Vegas/Stone and LTIR Matthews, spend his entire $13M on trade acquisitions, re-activate him for game 1 and get to have a playoff roster that’s hilariously over the cap.

Though in spite of the fact that Tampa & Vegas have both repeatedly abused the fuck out of that loophole and won Cups while doing so, you just know the minute the Leafs try it, Bettman will decide it’s cap circumvention and bring the hammer down hard.

If it's something like long COVID, or some other post-viral, chronic fatigue blah blah blah thing then there may be no point to resting and you just kind of hope that it's the kind of problem that comes and goes over time.

He is really slow. We have to stop this nonsense of making our team slower every trade deadline. There are no other teams doing this.
I said end of 2023 season I never wanted him back because you can't have him and JT as #2 and #3 Cs. They are too slow.
While we were adding slow, non puck movers at the deadline Rangers were adding Jack Roslovic for a playoff run last season.
It's driving me crazy. We've been doing this for 5 years-.

But ROR is better than Roslovic.
 
That would never happen if Ryan Reaves was in the lineup and followed Auston Matthews around on every shift in every situation.
