Just listening to Treliving’s interview on Overdrive.

Upon being asked why Laughton was the right addition and what he likes about him as a player, 90% of his answer was repeating the word “character” several times, pointing out that he was the captain of his junior team and that he was beloved in the room in Philly. Then he wrapped up by stating he provides “depth at center”.
 
We now have our top 5 D locked in for next season as well as our goaltending.

Knies and Robertson are due raises.

Tavares 11 mil should cover him staying and at knies if we want to go long term (6mil knies and 5 mil tavares). Robertson gets a small increase.

The cap increase is for marner and upgrades.

It’s probably 50 % a desire to get paid the absolute top fucking dollar possible.

And then the other 50% is his and his family’s simmering resentment that he’s not universally worshipped by Leaf fans despite the playoff no-shows, and their resentment towards the organization for failing to acknowledge him as the best player and face of the franchise ahead of Matthews.
 
Marner just saw rants go to a zero tax state for 12 million...

Rants being a cup winner big playoff performer and the rumours of the leafs willing to go 13.5 for him.

If the leafs don't do well or even if they do.... Marner will go for 7 years x 12 to sunny Tampa to play with Cooper. Easy.

Even if the leafs offer 13.5 here. The taxes, the stress the scrutiny is not worth it.

Look, if Mitch turns into a bitch in the playoffs AGAIN this year, he can flipping walk.

The hope is the little tournament maybe was a little bit of an awakening for him but we will see.
