so sure, replace klingberg with zadorov is an upgrade. the only leaf he'd be an upgrade on. But then you're doubling down on the idea of spending $4m of our capspace on a bottom pair guy, when I thought we were already annoyed with doing that and were desperately hoping klingberg would show some top-4 upside to make it palatable.

All I'm saying is replace Kling with Zadorov and not only does it improve the blueline, it also adds a physical element that replaces all or most of whatever it was Reaves was supposed to bring. Kill 2 rotting birds with one 6'6 Russian stone. You and I will continue to disagree that a physical/team toughness element is clearly necessary here though. I do agree though that signing dogshit 13th forwards to fill it is a mistake that Toronto GM's continue to fucking make.

what it takes?

@zeke ?

I think he previously said Weegar was his guy. Muzz was his previous guy so I'm good with Weegar.

If Calgary blows it up I imagine he can be had for some draft capital and salary filler. hell, give'em Knies if they want.

If Calgary says 1st + Cowan + Knies for Weegar, no retention, and we'll take Klingberg's salary as balast, do you do it?

Because that's roughly what I expect the cost to be. They have no reason to move him for cheap, he's fantastic and reasonably priced for what he brings. Also, optically, he's half of what they got for Tkachuk and the other half has laid a fat shit in Calgary so far.

replace Cowan with a lesser prospect and I'm on board. I also don't think it will take that much, but who knows.

4 millie isn't really "top 4" money. Nor is 21+ mpg "top 4 ice time" it's #2-3 ice time. Klingberg is playing as much this season as Rielly played last season. That's not what you sign a 4 million dollar defender to do, especially not one who was a known tire fire last year that you're hoping for bounce back from.
Well he started in the top 4 but quickly got demoted. And then half the D blew up and they're forced to rely on him again, so here we are. I mean I don't know for sure so I can't pretend. But I'm pretty sure Tre wouldn't have been too stoked if Keefe put Kling on the 3rd pair from day 1. And more importantly, it's about the adjustment and destination of where Kling lands, not necessarily where he starts for me. So they tried him in a top 4 role, it failed and he adapted pretty quickly to his credit (I'm not sure how he wouldn't have).

And then the injuries came so they're lacking options.

Tanev is elite.

Holy fuck you're brave

And he's younger and would set up this d corps for a long time with a Rielly, Weegar, Liljegren top 3 core. I'll take either, but I'd go pretty heavy for Weegar if they're even considering moving on from him.

One of the few guys on that Calgary roster that fits with a retool timeline is Weegar and he's not a secret anymore. He's real gud.

It's why I'm good with patching the holes in the boat this year and not rushing into long term replacements. If the cost is low, sure let's go but even that Kings trade didn't turn out as we had hoped. We got a very good but old and breaking down Muzzin who couldn't stay healthy when we needed him to and gave up Durzi, who is looking fairly fapworthy as a top pairing defender for the Coyotes so far this year, a good enough 4th liner and then a pick that turned into Bjornfoot but easily could have been turned into something else of need. It was the right move to make at the time, but I bet the Kings still do it again in retrospect as well (they probably consider keeping Durzi this time though, they might have fucked up)

Zadorov is an analytically average dman that does this:

I wouldn’t sign him to a big long term deal, but as a rental with retention… There are worse guys to get.

He's a slightly lesser 6'6 version of that mental case Gudas.

Yes please.

We got a 29yr old Muzzin who got concussed in his 4th year here, and concussions don't care how old you are.

The most important thing is that I want to see Keefe shuffle things aggressively and often. They have their top 9 dogs there, if something doesn't work after a game or 2, try the next thing. No need to fall in love with anything. But in any event, I have zero issue with this starting point.

So do I....... Right out the fucking door.
