Treliving is just about the last guy you would want making decisions on moving out any of the core and sadly he probably will be the guy. Even if Shanny somehow gets canned, this is the NHL and there's probably a really good chance treliving just gets promoted. He almost certainly gets kept by a new president as well with only one year on the job and a free bullet in the gun. It's about to get as painful being a leafs fan as it is opening up this forum and getting mostly wehave and mini wehave Jonas posts
 
If there's finally a shakeup, I think there's a solid chance Trefucker gets canned too. He inherited a team with everything on it that was needed to win, gave out a couple of UFA deals to guys who couldn't get term elsewhere, extended two of the core to big deals without any discount that any idiot could've accomplished, handed out a free extension to a shitty coach who had won nothing in the playoffs and got bested by worse teams multiple times, almost under protest added guys like Robertson, McMann (after waiving him), and Holmberg to the team, and then did nothing to improve the roster except add shitty dmen from bad teams.

If the new guy in charge has half a brain, he would clean house because this shitty GM completely faceplanted in his first year on the job.

My hope here is that if Shanny does get walked, but Treliving stays because "only 1 yr in the job, deserves a chance, yadda, yadda", his leash will be tight as fuck and all of his major moves will require President/Board approval. I've tried to watch and read everything Pelley has said since taking the job and generally strikes me as someone with a functioning clue, who isn't part of the NHL old boys club in the least.

It's not uncommon for GM's to not have all the latitude they want in regards to making changes, and I can't see why Pelley would trust Pizza Boy with fixing problems that it's entirely up in the air as to whether or not he created them himself.

Agreed. I'm really not into this whole thing about being super patient with front office and coaching people. They've learned to game the carousel to stretch their tenures at each level. Fuck that. It is not that hard to evaluate the impact of decisions at all the levels and this is a show me industry. Team underperformed? Everyone better be able to point at really rational reasons for why that shit wasn't their fault. Massive amounts of injuries, etc, etc. Coach gets one underperforming season and then fuck off. GM gets two and then fuck off with performance being measured against reasonable expectations for where the organization is in their arc towards contending/winning.

Treliving....kept throwing money at bad goalies (probably did the right thing now finally, but it took years), hasn't drafted for shit, 11 million thrown at Backlund & James Neal (which turned into Lucic...well played bud). Threw a bunch of money at Tanev instead of resigning Brodie. The Dougie Hamilton saga (imagine keeping a guy who would rather go to the museum than blow rails in the bathroom at the casino???)

Shit, if we want to get really fun with it, the two of them were AGM's for a combined 12 additional years and between them, their organizations won another 2 whole rounds of playoff hockey during that time. 26 years of combined upper management experience with 5 total playoff series win between them.
