OT: American Politics

Basically no real news today. The palace coup has FAILED! But by all means let the FanFic keep rolling in. I'm sure the stubborn old man will have a change of heart any day now.

So our current fragile world order depends on a stubborn 82 yr old man who may or may not have dementia… this is top rate Shakespearean drama

Also a dogshit party that got dog walked for most of the last 20 years whenever it didn't have Obama or Biden there to hold their hand and win them elections.

The unstoppable shit show meets the immovable octangenarian

so you just want online voting?

we have that at the municipal level here. seems to work fine, but understand the fraud concerns. don't actually know if it is more/less susceptible
Absolutely. Why would we do it any other way? The most stupid archaic part of all of this is the actual voting part, and somehow neither party has decided to just push this through.

Eh, that move along would disenfranchise the ~25 million americans who don't have internet access.

The underlying fact is that voter fraud the way it's presented as a problem by the right, simply isn't. They're running cover fire for policies meant to disenfranchise people.
There is no but in this.

You make it online. For anyone who doesn’t have internet access, there are library computers, friends’ computers/phones, and they can just set up a voting booth for those people and for people who like standing in lines. This is the all time fucking stupidest “problem” that they can’t fix. Are people really supposed to keep voting in person and by mail until the end of time? When do we make the switch?

People don't trust voting machines and you think they'll go along with online voting?

Do you not realize that the gop is trying yo get rid of voting machines and make all voting hand counted ballots?

And btw we just found out every single AT&T customer had their data hacked.

Eh, I think you're under estimating what would be necessary to do it. Estonia has online voting, has had it for almost 20 years and even they only get about ~50% of their votes that way, so expecting 100% utilization is kind of nuts. Also, the federal government isn't actually in charge of voting....the states are. So now you need to get all of the states onboard, you need them to agree on what systems can be used, etc, etc, etc. It would be a massive clusterfuck just due to the structure and size of the US.

Estonia only pulled it off because they started efforts to basically reorganize the "state" digitally in the 90's after communism fell. Everything is done digitally in Estonia, they're basically living in cold Wakanda.
