Fair, that could be it too. Dems technically could have applied this private/public pressure on him a year ago though, or at least before the primaries. But to your point, Joe probably needed to see the data in July with the election a few months away, not last year, to be convinced.

no way. Dems are under no obligation to 'compromise' with the right. The right needs to fix itself. There is no way anyone would suggest the next GOP candidate should pick a dem as his/her running mate.

In the past the veep was from the other party. Maybe they knew something back then that people forgot.

And it's not a compromise, it's giving the sane Republicans something to vote for. Maga can't win it alone.
