OT: American Politics

yeah like i said, you don;'t even realize you're doing it.

And you're still saying BS about our "predictions".
Because I'm not doing it. Sorry if being told you were wrong when you were wrong strikes you as condescension. You were calling for an overpowering win and posting Swifty endorsements and did maybe 600 victory laps in July alone. Now, the morning after, you're calling for the end of the world as we know it. It's condescending to point out that your worst case scenario may not play out any better than your best case scenario did? And that entitles people to viciously cuss me out?

Second favourite macabre result of the election. Black Twitter was calling dibs on front row seats to watch the deportations last night.
This feels a bit like pulling the ladder over the wall by the Hispanic voters...I'm curious on the age split on R/D.

With all of the ups and downs that came with it, Post WWII US leadership ushered in the most prosperous and peaceful era in human history.

The US abdicating that role in exchange for base protectionism will produce a bunch of very predictable outcomes domestically and internationally. I mean, how long does this "peaceful" movement put up with countries telling them no on things they regard as in their national interest? The US got told "no" very little over the last 80 years because of the amount of soft power they wield. Remove the soft power incentive and it's either get used to being told no by nations not seeing the upside in getting along just for the sake of maintaining the relationship, or replace the soft power with hard power to get your way.

I mean, we've laughed the last few years as we've watched the BRICS group try to work around the American financial order. But the Europeans could do it in a couple of months if relations get to that point.
Lol how's that Euro value looking today?

Everyone here knows i was clearly not doing any victory laps.

Not only do you keep condescending, but you just decide to lie about what i've said in order to do it.

And then you cry when anyone treats you the same. Stop being a baby.

Yeah it definitely is. There was recent polling that came out before the puerto rico garbage bit about how latinos heard all of the shit Trump said, but didn't feel like he was talking about them specifically.

Well, they're going to learn. Remember that one of Vance's pet projects is ending birthright citizenship (I'm sure his wife's citizenship will be fine though....).

Germany is already making the right noises and if they learn from the anti immigration backlash in the US they can pass some policies that tamp down their own movements over there.

Those are "cans" and "ifs" though, definitely.
Lol your boy in Canada already had to come out with come clamps on immigration because of the backlash. People are fed up with it.

I find this fascinating...the Arabs and the Jews both thought Harris would be bad for them? There was a real movement by normally left voters on social media to not vote for Harris because that would be being party to a genocide and the Arab voters seemed to follow through.
Yup. It's a pretty unusual outcome.

Arabs see the Biden administration as supporting Israel's "genocide" in Gaza. They don't like Kamala's "Israel has the right to defend itself" party line, even though she automatically follows it up with the two-state stuff. I'm not sure how they think they would do better under Trump, but maybe they believed that neither party would buy into their anti-semitic garbage and so they decided to punish the current administration for it.

Meanwhile, Jews saw Kamala come out a few weeks after October 7 (for many it was basically the first time they heard anything out of her since she became VP) and tell the country that we have an Islamophobia problem here. While Jews were massacred, swastikas were painted everywhere, jewish businesses and synagogues were vandalized (still are in LA as we speak, several stores just this week had their windows smashed in and were burglarized), and college protests were beginning, our astute VP detected an Islamophobia problem somehow. Then she pushed Biden aside and took over and initially was not talking about Israel's right to defend itself, but was much more neutral about it, and then videos of her emerged sympathizing with the other side, while saying and doing nothing about the protests. It sent a clear message that she's not anyone that can be counted on to really protect Israel when in office. Unless every Jew is stupid here like WeHave says, nobody wanted her for this one reason alone.

Sitting on the fence had its consequences on this issue.
