OT: American Politics

(your posts here suggest that you actually oppose rule of law)
He never said he opposed it, just that he believed in it, as in, it's a thing that exists. He never said anything about it actually applying to Trump.

It's like the Constitution. It exists. In fact, you can go and see it on display. But it's just a museum exhibit. It's not something that Trump is obliged to follow.

I dunno, they shutout Boston on the night I couldn’t have cared less how they did.

Would be just like them to win it, the same week Trump drops a nuke on Belize.
There's actually a W.P. Kinsella short story in which the Cubs are on an improbable pennant run, but the Cubs manager keeps having nightmares about nuclear Armageddon happening if the Cubs actually win.

this is just verifiably untrue. if you're gonna throw shade, at least be accurate.

there were no victory laps, and definitely none by zeke. there was some enthusiasm for Kamala, some skepticism and concern, and discussions about the accuracy of the polls. it appears you found this discussion somewhat offensive?

(and I will readily admit my enthusiasm was misplaced and my pre-election expectations were wrong... I thought, among other things, that the internet is not real life, but I'm revisiting that and other assumptions).

actually that's Trump, ironically...

we're just pointing out (as many of us have been for 8+ years) that America is on the slippery slope towards fascism, among other observations. you clearly disagree with this, yet seem offended others still think it?
Like I said, I stayed away from this thread for months. Last time I was here, he was posting Swifty endorsements and saying it was over. Pretty much all of you were overflowing with joy the moment she stepped in, going nuts over the fundraising records she was breaking, and generally loving every minute of the dem party. If something changed since then, I don't know. I only saw more predictions of landslides yesterday and figured nothing did.

Anyway, nice try with the attempt to turn this around on me. When did I say I was offended by anything today? LGM viciously swore me down because he disagrees with my moderate take, and Zeke steps in to say it was justified because I was being condescending by having a different viewpoint. This is the problem with the modern liberal - if you disagree with them on any level, you're torn down and they call you names and hit you with accusations of racism, misogyny, bigotry, stupidity, elitism, lack of sympathy, and so on. That's a big reason for this dem loss imo - this sort of thing made people want to go out there and bring about some change.

You do you.

You'll find out soon enough that we were right about Trump.

But if I were you I'd be packing my shit and moving back to Canada. Or moving to Mexico. Or moving to literally anywhere else.

Just an observation, but is it possible that Americans aren't interested in a female President? Could it be that simple?
No, because Kamala was a terrible candidate. If Kamala was a Obama-esque candidate, I'd think there could be some validity. But the reality is, she's quite possibly the single worst candidate I've ever seen for a major political position.

No, that's who she lost to.

If you were away for months, maybe don’t comment on the content you did not review or are not aware of?
Last time I was here, he was posting Swifty endorsements and saying it was over.
Zeke most definitely did not do this. This is verifiable….
Pretty much all of you were overflowing with joy the moment she stepped in, going nuts over the fundraising records she was breaking, and generally loving every minute of the dem party.
Yes, most of us here supported Kamala when she became the nominee. Again, there’s revisionism here though - many of us wanted Biden to stay on.
If something changed since then, I don't know. I only saw more predictions of landslides yesterday and figured nothing did.
I think this is selective reading. Maybe a half dozen of us were expecting a kamalandslide.

And even then, most of us only crystallized that view in the past week.

Clearly, as I admitted in my previous post, we were wrong.
Anyway, nice try with the attempt to turn this around on me. When did I say I was offended by anything today?
It was implicit in the tone of your posts. But if you are not offended, then great
LGM viciously swore me down because he disagrees with my moderate take, and Zeke steps in to say it was justified because I was being condescending by having a different viewpoint.
My only comment on any of this was to set the record straight about what zeke did or did not predict. Which again, is verifiable.

I agree with part of this, to an extent. People are clearly having a tough time and taking it out on incumbents at the polls.

I will admit it. I thought that Biden was too old to run again, and that was America's issue.

It wasn't.

I thought that the energy of Harris' convention and her debate performance was enough to win it.

It also wasn't.

I thought that the Democrats messaging was terrible.

It was.

No, that's who she lost to.
If you insist on pointing the finger (for the second time, now) and claiming "but actually, no!" then I think you, and many here, might need to take a moment and reflect how you got here. The amount of people in this thread who seem genuinely surprised that Trump got re-elected is shocking to me.

Nobody's [Edit] Virtually nobody is[/edit] calling Trump a good candidate, but Trump didn't defeat a shining political star. The Democratic party arrogantly shoved Kamala to the forefront and this is what you got.

For the record, I'm not politically conservative, I've never voted conservative once in my life. With the exception of voting for the Bloc in the last federal elections, I've always voted Liberal. I'm not trying to troll or be an asshole on a victory lap.

Serious question though...what kind of resume are we expecting a female Presidential candidate to have for her to not be a bad candidate?

Because from where I sit, both Kamala and Hillary had better resumes that Trump, Obama, Bush II, & Clinton before they become President. Hillary was deemed to serious, Kamala too silly. There doesn't appear to be an ideal personality type for a female candidate to have either. Why can't we just admit the obvious?
