yah so I was hoping one of my conservative colleagues (who I am friends with) could talk me off the edge today.
so I asked him to basically put my mind at ease.
his response did not succeed, unfortunately. he doesn't believe Trump will do the things he says he will, and he was not aware of a bunch of the things he said he would do (and then repeated). and thinks that american 'institutions' will constrain trump.

yup. this was my thinking in July - Biden was more likely to win the blue wall states than Kamala. proof is in the pudding. I mean we'll never know for sure.

Ask him to specifically name the institutions that will keep Trump in check. And try to keep a straight face.

funny you mention that - one of the points he came back to repeatedly was, 'well we already had four years of trump'. then I noted that was pre-presidential immunity...

Everyone hates the "deep state" without realizing they've been immensely spoiled from birth by these amazing institutions that make up the foundation of the greatest society the world has ever seen, by far.
They simply can't imagine they would fail, even though 99% of human history never had anything like them, and even as they watch them fail in real time..... as they all cheer on the attacks.

I'm waiting until I can sit down with some good exit polling to see for sure, but at first glance it does look like Kamala bled some of the Biden coalition voters. Not sure if 82 yr old Biden would have won though, 78 yr old Biden for sure.
This is epic level stupidity. Even if the sending country was paying the Tariffs, that cost has to be passed on somewhere. Who the fuck was gonna pay for it? The immigrants ? The illegals ? The blacks ? The brownies ? Or maybe the purchasers at every step in the supply chain ?

I was already scared of his second term in 2020 because he wouldn't have to even pretend to get elected after it. This is much worse now.

yah, I'll admit that for almost all of my life I just took for granted that society would continue to 'progress' (i.e. increasing life expectancies, standards of living, quality of life, technological developments).
and now that that is at serious risk, I dunno what to do but fight like hell to try and leave our kiddos a better world than we started with.

The ticket splitting is sticking in my craw.
If dems are winning downballot in these key states the only reason they're losing top of the ticket is some kind of visceral reaction against Kamala.

Like, do we want him to die in office? Then we have President JD, who I suspect goes full fascism pretty quickly.

Looks like the only potential cure will have to be him actually doing these things for real.
