OT: American Politics

It has been stated thousands of times in this thread that everything Trump says is bullshit. He has proven in the past that most of what he says is bullshit. But this king stuff is for real? Even if it is, Trump is not going to topple democracy in the US. The notion of it is honestly absurd.
I hope so. But I also would have thought that an insurrection to overthrow the vote shouldn't be possible either. Thankfully that failed in the end.

I don't think this will truly be "the last vote", no. But I think the Republicans will do everything in their power to skew things in their favor so that barring the next Obama, it's not going to be an even playing field for generations to come.

his acolytes, who are gonna be the cabinet secretaries and minions running his government, sure seem to think he's serious about "mass deportation now", for starters.

so do the stock markets, for that matter.
I don't know what "mass deportation" is going to look like. Newsom is already busy taking measures to store up funds and gear up legal challenges to it in California. I also think the focus is going to be mainly on people who are committing crimes, in prison, ripping off the government, etc.

No, I admit I didn't think something like that would happen. We're seeing in recent years (especially around the world with the Israel stuff) the lengths lunatic morons among the masses will go, but we also saw what happened in reaction to it.

The Constitution will not die, the US will not become some fascist nation, and everything will be just fine. You can think it's burying head in the sand talk, but it's not. Bet against the US at your own risk.
I agree for the most part but I'm not gonna go as far as saying "no chance." I think the chances of fascism being a thing are definitely higher today than they were a year ago. If I had to bet on it, would I bet against the USA? No of course not. But my mind is open. Donny and the GOP have surprised me many times before.

And we do know for a fact that he fantasizes about being a dictator. The nice part about him is that he telegraphs all of his thoughts. Do I think he'll be successful even if he acts on it? Not something I'd bet on. But there's for sure a better chance than there's been in decades.

one of the current leading AG candidates just this week said that they should be deporting American citizens who are children of illegal immigrants along with their parents.

the biggest actual issue they are likely to run into is how much it costs to carry out their purge. but the intent is clear and well-stated.

Don't bet against America...sure.

But this shit isn't the normal things of healthy functioning democracies

Mixed feelings on Noam but he sorta nailed that America was ripe for a figure like Donny long before he entered the scene.

The United States is extremely lucky that no honest, charismatic figure has arisen. Every charismatic figure is such an obvious crook that he destroys himself, like McCarthy or Nixon or the evangelist preachers. If somebody comes along who is charismatic and honest this country is in real trouble because of the frustration, disillusionment, the justified anger and the absence of any coherent response. What are people supposed to think if someone says ‘I have got an answer, we have an enemy’? There it was the Jews. Here it will be the illegal immigrants and the blacks. We will be told that white males are a persecuted minority. We will be told we have to defend ourselves and the honor of the nation. Military force will be exalted. People will be beaten up. This could become an overwhelming force. And if it happens it will be more dangerous than Germany. The United States is the world power. Germany was powerful but had more powerful antagonists. I don’t think all this is very far away. If the polls are accurate it is not the Republicans but the right-wing Republicans, the crazed Republicans, who will sweep the next election.

You'd rather children be separated from their parents? That's barbaric.

I'll also be surprised if that guy really gets a legit shot at the job. He's far more radical and inflammatory than even they would likely be comfortable with.

If Newscum wants to be President in 2029, maybe he should shut his piehole on immigration

Nixon was destroyed by intel agencies. That was a major crock of shit.

Also white males are a minority or will be, when do we get special privileges as a minority?

I mean, are they really going to be grabbing the dishwasher, the maid, and their two young kids and putting them on a plane if they have a clean record, have been here for years, and are paying their taxes? I'm skeptical, honestly. And if they try, there will be pushback at the state level, so it could end up being a lot of talk.

But if they go after the twice convicted armed robber waiting to stand trial for his third one, and send him and his wife and kids packing, would I be surprised, or opposed to it? Can't say that I would.

Biden did away with Trump policies around enforcing border illegal immigration. Thus, more illegal immigrants.
be specific. I still don't know what you're referring to here.

it sounds like Biden may have repealed some of Trump's executive orders around the border? if so, that's entirely within his prerogative, and consistent with your laws and constitution.

and policy is different from law anyways. governments are free to set their own policies, so long as they are consistent with the laws.

you still haven't shown any examples of public servants being asked to do things that are illegal under Biden. or examples of Biden instructing civil servants to ignore the law.

and again, why should civil servants be loyal to an individual instead of your constitution?
