OT: American Politics

aaaaand this is before counter tariffs from fucking everyone kick in.

Think he'll go so far as to lend Russia support beyond lifting sanctions?

I can't think of the support he could give Russia tbh. One of the key problems Ukraine had in handling American aid was that their legacy military was mostly equipped with old soviet era systems and they had to train their people, adapt their logistics, build new maintainence programs, etc, etc from the ground up to accept and effectively utilize American aid.

Even something as easy and simple as shells...NATO standard is 155mm, Russian standard is 152mm. You can re-bore a 152 and turn it into a 155 (Russian has an export varient of their 152mm system which is exactly that, a rebored 152). But the vast majority of barrels the Russians have are 152mm and they don't have the capacity to rebore them to fit American shells at a high enough rate for it to make a difference. Also...the US doesn't exactly have a huge stockpile of 155mm shells to give.

So could they give aid? Sure. But it would require the same type of long term effort that Ukraine undertook to accept US aid, we'd be talking about 8-12 months before anything they sent (Bradley's, etc) were seen in the field, and frankly for the standard of training the Russians have (poor, very poor), I don't see them being willing to invest in that just to roll American equipment out there.

I'm sure he could find some shit to give them as a symbol of US aid to Russia, but I don't think it would be impactful.
