OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Yeah it's gotta be a LOT milder for our hospitals to get out of this unscathed. And hey, it might be. Delta was like 3x deadlier than the original covid.. If we get back to OG covid or even Alpha severity that's a big win when we've got vaccines to blunt it further. We do know that the hospitalization rate and mortality rate for omicron still greatly exceeds that of the flu, with far more people being infected than in any flu season.. So it's still gonna be an issue. But the younger and especially vaxxed folks are likely to get out of this just fine.

Of course, the concern is that the next variant has Delta or Delta+ severity. I would almost prefer if it was the vaccines/prior immunity that makes omicron appear more mild because that's more sustainable and may give a clue about what our immune system does with frequent exposure! The mutations are completely random and it's literally a coin flip whether the next one is milder or deadlier. Alpha was deadlier than the wildtype and Delta was deadlier than Alpha. But maybe just maybe Omicron has scaled it back again.

I would also like to put Delta to sleep too. We don't need that co-circulating or mutating into something more transmissible and just as severe!
 
Have another anecdotal case over here. Co-worker(unvaxxed 38yo) had to go to hospital from her symptoms(extreme fever night chillls). She was on oxygen but it now looks like they need to put her in a coma for some reason. I’m lacking full details since she’s been in the hospital though.
 
I don't know for sure but I think/hope that as antivaxxers start seeing some of their friends drop some will give in and get the jab.

It's weird how there's so many different variations of symptoms people get. Still weird to think that everything from a cough to being put into a coma in a hospital comes out of the same thing.

Pcrs do seem to be prone to some false positives.

in the past few wks I’ve seen three - in my hockey game, at the daycare and my brother in laws employee.

It could be different variants. Delta and other variants are still around and have symptoms that can be much more harsh than omicron’s appear to be.
 
Growth crashing to a near halt but hard to tell whether that's due to being at testing capacity or not. High positivity % tells me it's a factor but not sure how big of one.

 
Around 12% which is high for them since they test a lot more than us. London is over 15% and it's apparently next to impossible to get tested there these days.
 
This is the bit that is less encouraging. Big jump today and the first sign of "steepening" in a while. It was always gonna happen tho with all these cases. Can't read much into a single day.

Really itchy nose and mild cough today. Hoping it's nothing, but that's usually how my colds start. Gonna spin by the office and have someone bring me out some rapid tests. They only provided for the non vaxxed folks.
