OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

It's airborne. No evidence of surfaces being back on the table. I wish it were the case. That would make things a lot easier.

In the past getting groceries were low risk because if everyone was wearing a mask you'd need like 10-30 minutes of exposure to get infected. Now it seems like that exposure timeline has decreased significantly.
And everyone is wearing shitty masks still

Extremely nerdy thread and probably only interesting for nerds but TLDR: Some nerds are close to calling Omicron a new strain as opposed to just a variant. It's radically different which is why we're seeing a pretty different clinical picture. And it's going to continue to adapt for the rest of time. Plenty of room for it to continue to do so.

SO ITS NOT EVEN COVID ANYMORE

Scamdemic is over, folks. Welcome to the new NHL.

honestly I feel like it's only a matter of time until it's in my office. then we all go down. do not trust my colleagues to be responsible...

is it displacing delta though?

Looks likely. Took awhile, but Delta is starting to decrease in the UK. I think boosters are helping crush it + omicron infections help protect vs Delta too if vaxxed. Wonder what the picture looks like in unvaxxed countries tho.

Apparently when CDC changed their guidance, cited Omicron transmission and said Omicron was 73% of their cases, it was actually at that time only 23% which they corrected after.

NS just pulled a Dougie and is switching to more of a booster free for all system. Was 50+ and 158 days since dose two, changing to 30+ and 158 days on Monday.

And, and this is really the key, they are reopening one of the mass vaccination centres too so they will be dedicating additional resources to this.

but obviously too fucking late to do much with the current omicron situation...

So even if the hospitalization rate is miniscule (say, .1%), thats going to be almost 800 hospitalizations in 1-2 weeks.

It will likely be quite a bit higher than that though...from one day of cases.

In case anyone's looking for jack off material...

As dumb as a "let 'er rip" strategy is now... In hindsight the "let 'er rip" strategy looks dumber than ever when fatality rates and hospitalization rates were 2, 3, 4 times higher than they are today. Kicking the can down the road was entirely worth it. But it was always going to get to this point as the "end game".. And we knew that our leaders were going to get to this point far sooner than they should.

Protect yourselves, don't let your hands off the wheel. But if it happens, it happens. You didn't fail yourself.
