OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Let's paint a picture.

It's summer. We're all freshly boosted with omicron boosters a few months after getting boosted with the OG shot AND after getting infected by omicron. We have super immunity for the next 3-4 months. Transmission is low and no variant has outcompeted omicron yet. The sun is out, the risks are low. We're drinking beautiful collective arts bevvies on a patio and we can even go indoors and feel very comfortable about it!

How well will this age?

Honestly, with likely availability of the anti virals that don't appear to give too many fucks about what type of variant its dealing with....this could age pretty well.

Especially considering the early returns on omicron infections providing good delta immunity. Omicron is going to leave a serious trail of illness and earned immunity in its wake.

In many ways I hope this hypothesis does not turn out to be true

Honestly don't care. If it works on this variant, it works. Facts don't penetrate the thought processes of the chloroquine muppets, I refuse to follow suit.

When the facts change, opinions change. They touchdown dance without the facts being in their favour so what would really change?

AND if omicron has a long stay or if any variant is a descendent of omicron, an omicron-specific booster can restore protection back to the 90+% range.

Predicting when and how variants come is pointless though. That's the part of my prediction that I have the least confidence in and the one thing that can throw every mother fucking thing off.

I actually already thought we'd have a good summer anyway and I thought we could hold onto restrictions a little longer to not totally crash the health care system and the peak would end quickly, but whatever, I give up.

Oh yeah, my picture does not rely on giving up and letting it rip. I'm just giving folks something to look forward to because things may feel bleak right now.

Its why these super duper variants are so important. The less competition their is between variants, the more able we are to beat the winner in a 1 on 1 knife fight

Supply is horrible right now but it's already starting in the US!

The new guidance doc is a real treat to read. Some points say 5 day isolation from symptoms; others clarify that it’s 5 days + 24 hours of symptoms starting to improve. In another place it says 48 hours if you also have gastrointestinal symptoms.

also - if a member of your household has symptoms then the entire household needs to isolate. I didn’t see anything about weeding out infection if there is a negative antigen result, So basically every time a kid catches a cold their entire family needs to isolate.

also, why does the 5 day rule apply to under 12s? And are they updating the symptoms list??
