OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

So uh, sorta positive news individually speaking.

But isn't that still... not great if you have 3-4x the cases?

Yeah it needed to be at least 80%, maybe 90%. But I don't love the study they put out. They didn't have anyone over 45 in it.. But it does look similar to UK/SA, who all have it at 50-70% due to a combo of prior immunity + possibly something intrinsic.

I personally think it's clinically a little different. The UK mechanical ventilation beds are flat, even a little down since the omicron wave began. Delta crushed the lungs.. This one is still making people very sick, but maybe in a different way and maybe the percentage reduction in the worst outcomes will be higher? Either way, our hospitals are fucked

What did they say Delta was compared to OG covid, do you recall?

We really need an emergency approval of pediatric vaccines. There is a lot of this just because of the sheer number of infections.. A vaccine, even if there's 0 protection on symptomatic illness SHOULD be able to cut these hospitalizations in half. I know the Pfizer trial failed due to dosing issues (and they're in the process of giving them 3rd doses) but shit, give the kids something in the meantime if the safety is fine. It's an emergency. Cut through the red tape please.

I know people are going to disagree with me and are eager to move on, but I don't think this is a great route for the province as a whole. Hopefully I'm wrong.
You're right. I'm not surprised because this is a tough battle and the government is done fighting tough battles. But you're right. We're not there yet.

I heard that you can't book a PCR test until January 20, unless you go to a private clinic.

Is that true? If so the case numbers are meaningless. Just assume everyone has it.

they have said as much here (case numbers are meaningless). and despite that we are still seeing all-time record high cases (vs. any other wave) even knowing that they are likely massively undercounting the true prevalence.

Ms. Wayward's brother woke up symptomatic on christmas day. Luckily he did not go to see any family but he was able to get a PCR test on Tuesday and got his results today (positive).
