Somewhat funny (for others) story with an anecdotal healthcare system experience, so I'll post it here.
On Christmas some of the family and I decided to go out on the ATV's and clear some trail. You know, really redneck stuff. Anyway I ended up with severe poison oak on my face, arms, hands, and groin (fire away, I've heard them all). I got some sort of megadose of the oil from the plant that causes the rash. Think I must have cut through a vine and carried it, which apparently can give you a 100x dose compared to just touching the leaves. Pretty stupid, but with it being the middle of winter I wasn't even thinking.
By the night of 28th one of my eyes is swollen shut, my arm looks like it has 3rd degree burns, and my groin is...concerning. I go to emerg as its 12am and I have no other options. Despite the fact that I can't see out of one eye, every inch of my arm is covered in blisters and I'm dripping puss all over the waiting room, they tell me it's an 8+ hour wait (I'd already waited 2 hours).
Not sure if these wait times are because of COVID but I think it must be. So I bail and do a call with a doctor on Maple for $90 and get a script for steroids filled at shoppers, and suffer until they kick in a bit on the 30th. I probably needed a steroid injection but damned if I was going to wait in emerg for eight more hours overnight after the two hours I'd already waited. Probably traded some scarring on my arm for that.
Anyway, anecdotal but seems the health care system is pretty run down. I'll be a little more cautious until things cool down, as the care you expect might not be there.
Also a mega dose of poison oak is hell on earth. At any point in the last 48 hours I would have traded for COVID...literally thought I was losing my sanity. Hopefully no permanent junk damage.
