OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

The Army isn't only gunning for COVID-19. Scientists are designing the vaccine to be adaptable for all viruses in the coronavirus family, future and past, including SARS, a virus that infected more than 8,000 people during its last outbreak in 2003.

Dr. Kayvon Modjarrad, founding director of the Emerging Infectious Diseases Branch at the Walter Reed Army Institute of Research, told the Army Times, "We have designed and positioned this platform as the next-generation vaccine, one that paves the way for a universal vaccine to protect against not only the current virus, but also counter future variants, stopping them in their tracks before they can cause another pandemic."

Though the Army's vaccine hasn't been directly tested on the omicron variant, scientists working on the vaccine said its protection has shown promise against omicron in the lab using human trial samples.

Don't expect this one in 2022 but if all goes well, it could be a reality in 2023 at some point. Early in the game tho and lots of testing needed to be done; success is nowhere near guaranteed. There are more of these types coming. It's prolly the next significant game changer after treatments become widely available.

Whack-a-mole on new variants is a nice stop-gap but not sustainable. This is easy. Just take a shot every 6 months to a year and bam.. Endemicity guaranteed. The variant hysteria will be mostly irrelevant and gonezo.

Uptake on a US military designed vaccine? Probably under 50% in the US.

Their loss! I'll be all over that shit if it proves safe and effective!
Point was, like all vaccines you need a certain percentage of the population to take it for it to be successful.

Can lead a horse to water but if it has listened to Rogan it will think water is only for the sick horses and it shouldn't drink it.

I live in Canada. If it's truly safe and effective and promoted as a pandemic ender, we'll take it here. Have to remember a lot of the hesitancy in the US and other places is mRNA hesitancy and the rapid pace at which it got approved. This product uses a far older, more proven technology and has been in development for the last 2 years and likely wouldn't be available for another 1-2 years. If the excuse was "it's a new technology! It was rushed!" Well, they don't have that excuse anymore. The true antivaxxers that don't take any vaccines will continue to avoid this one, but the anti covid vaxxers will come on board.

Of course.. I'm making a lot of assumptions here on the efficacy of this product. It's still very very early in the game.

I don't think 'logic' factors into the rationale the anti-vaxxers provide. If it wasn't mRNA it would be something else, IMO.

Yeah, the diehard antivaxxers won't ever come on board. Thankfully most of them don't live where I live. And if it is truly a smashing success, the vaccine mandates will be far more aggressive in Canada. Far more. There is no other option if we're still going through shit by 2023/2024.

And this is what happens when you put a little pressure on people to get vaccinated...

I have 0 concern about uptake, especially in Canada, if this new tool proves to be a true gamechanger. And they'll do the same in the US too.

Got booster shot yesterday and man its kicking my ass. Had zero issues with first 2 shots (Pfizer), however the Moderna booster has led to a massive headache, fatigue, nausea, and chills. Overall just tired of all this shit

On Dec. 31st: 32% hospitalizations unvaxxed, 62.2% ICU unvaxxed. So as expected it is trending down with protection vs symptomatic illness dropping. The lag is real.

But if you age-adjust things look better + boosting is helping the rebound!

So one of two things...women are either outside spitting in each other's mouths. Or the kids are massive disease vectors.
