OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

Even Trump gets it! This could have and should have been so much worse and deadlier. Can you imagine if every single person on earth got infected completely immunonaive pre-vaccines? Can you imagine Delta pre-vaccines? Yeesh. Bloodbath is putting it mildly. Nerds >>>>>>>>>
I think you mean big pharma >>>>>>>>>

Correct me if I'm wrong, but the hospitalizations we are seeing would still have to be from the front side of the wave and not the peak where we were likely seeing 40-50k+ infections a day for nearly a week, right?

I'm all for some optimism right now and all, but this take seems to be contrary to the most likely set of facts.

No I think you're right, we're on the front side of the hospitalization wave, but the slope of the wave MAY be decreasing. His take was just a one night anecdote.

Yeah anecdotes can be useful if you've got a large dataset but not as sure when they go contrarian. There are some anecdotes in South Africa about people already getting reinfected with omicron. Try to not take those too seriously either. Seems aggressive that those would be common just a month to a month and a half since the variant even existed. Possible, but unlikely in large numbers, just like it's possible that the one particular hospital had a smooth night, but not likely in large numbers.

That's amazing and best case is that we soon find out that the mechanism that increases transmission moving forward is increased infectivity in the upper respiratory tract, trading off with lung infectivity. That's the great white hope for me. Because if that tradeoff doesn't exist the next variants could easily be back to fucking up our lungs and this could all be a one-off.

It is weird that Ontario isn't replicating that tho. Clearly they had a lot more delta than us before this wave so it's most likely delta folks getting off the vents with fewer omicron folks added.

Ya their net immunity was higher given their huge daily's for the past 6 months.

I can't find a good graph for number in Ontario ventilator but our ICU numbers may be showing the start of an inflection.
