OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

My friend Jen, lives near Seattle. Her husband works in the hospital. She just shared this.

“My husband just texted me that he was up in the icu where all the covid patients are looking at an ultrasound . He says every one of them are intubated and on vents.”

My cousin is a nurse in Connecticut

She texted me that she fears exhaustion and stress will send some of her staff home on leave to recoup

Plus with the extra gear your wearing some staff are fainting and getting dizzy at work

Ontario started to shut 'er down a bit more aggressively last week. Not to a large extent, but better than nothing. I wonder if we start seeing those impact the hospitalizations in a positive way within the next few days. And no, I don't care about cases when it comes to Ontario.. Those numbers are a load of shit.

It's nice to see thousands of retired doctors and health care workers stepping up to the plate in the US.

Lots of good people to counteract all the selfish losers that make the headlines.

IMO, it’s gonna take way longer than that to see an effect. Monday last week seemed pretty business as usual.

Don't squash my bleak optimism! You're right of course... But my only hope is seeing empty streets of downtown Toronto for a good 7-8 days now. I don't really think that happened elsewhere.

But your'e right. Enough people had it already.. It likely significantly multiplied each and every day and still is.

Not to mention, the backlog number keeps growing

Yeah, like I said I only care about hospitalizations, not cases. The case numbers are entirely bullshit and misleading. I wish the media would harp on that more.

That testing backlog is nuts.

We basically have zero idea what the situation is in Ontario right now.

The next couple of weeks will be tough. Then maybe we’ll see if the lock down had an effect.

Tough to say , we are just in the ramp up stages of testing

Numbers are going higher simply due to the thousands of tests coming back

It may take another month to get a better picture

If things are working, it might not be as long before you start seeing progress. I mean, numbers will keep going up, but presumably as people lock themselves at home, you're presumably going to need less people going in to get tested, which should hopefully clear some of the backlog. But it is one of those annoying things - governments and everyone will harp on 2 weeks of distancing, but that's barely enough to catch up on testing, so we're still going to see numbers climb at that time, and I bet you're going to have a lot of people come back complaining that we shut everything down for 2 weeks and didn't see things any better, etc...

We're only ordering non-essential businesses to close down *tonight* in Ontario... and even that list of people who are still going to be out and about is pretty long.

I dunno, I think we're still in for an onslaught for the next four weeks or so.

Hairdressers will be crazy busy when this subsides. I can just see the clientele all disheveled looking.
