OT: Coronavirus Resources - and other things to not worry about

The 2 coronavirus metrics you should care about

Mortality is not one of them

The most underrated metric is number of hotspots. The second underrated metric is number of deaths regardless of cause.

Yup, total mortality rates is going to be a great statistic to use. As mentioned, this will impact the care people receive for other medical conditions. Also, it's hard to directly attribute the virus and death. Cause of death can be multi-factorial, and cases pawned off as "heart attacks" or septic shock could have been precipitated by this virus which may or may not be tested post-mortum.

Looks like California and NC also have 10,000+ tests pending.

The pending issue is undoubtably reagent shortage. We can’t find more ourselves. Everyone we’ve called is dry. Other labs are dry. Need these damn reagents. I bet China has a stockpile.

Its pretty clear from numbers that most everyone is going to get it. So yeah, maybe start focusing on hospitalizations at this point.

We are so far behind in testing its hard to say where our numbers in the curve actually lie. Heck, Quebec has surged to over 1,000 cases in the last 2 days and they've announced 90% of cases in Canada in the last few days were community spread.

The officials numbers are like the points from who's line is it anyways.

They don't matter. Nobody outside of south Korea has tested enough to know what the numbers really are. For every person who has it, there could be 10 who have it and haven't been tested.

Another good metric might be Deaths:Recovered ratio.

S.Korea: 1 death - 29.22 recovered

Canada: 1 death - 4.48 recovered
France: 1 death - 2.98 recovered

Spain: 1 death - 1.36 recovered
Italy: 1 death - 1.22 recovered

USA: 1 death - 0.56 recovered
UK: 1 death - 0.32 recovered

This is a sign for the rest of us that we are going to need a longer lockdown than anticipated and authorities have to step in and keep people home
