OT: Movies/TV Shows

Yeah it's close for me but I think I have Ali G first. No one broke more human beings more than him. He is the troll I always aspired to be.
Haha, the one where he absolutely just killed his prey was that poor veteran/veterinarian with the farm. I just rewatched it a few weeks ago, so damn funny.

thought about Something About Mary, but forgot to list it. If memory serves it got a lot of laughs in the theatre too, not sure if it still holds up though. And i LOVE Royal Tanenbaums, good call.

I think it does (saw it again a few years ago) because the plot is pretty solid and the cast is top notch

Yeah, I remember the audience in Something About Mary going nuts for the entire film. Great comedy, and Cameron Diaz ended up being a very underrated actress. She was generally great.

I saw Borat at TIFF premiere when the projector broke half way thru — never laughed so hard. I’m such a big Sacha fan but it’s not a top 5 movie because the plot and story telling are subpar and his stuff works way better in short sketches

My fave comedies if you ask right now (next week you might get a different answer)

No specific order

There’s Something About Mary
Groundhog Day
Fargo
The Royal Tenenbaums
The Celebration

All time favourite movie period….most quoted, most watched, most art dedicated to it in my home, most tattoo ideas I have, most scenes I’ve acted out in a tapas bar in Nicaragua.

“Everyone knows Custer died at Little Bighorn, what my book presupposes is….maybe he didn’t?”

That encounter he has with Danny Glover in the kitchen that first morning is hilarious. I can't remember the line, where he calls him "Coal Train" or something like that, and Glover reacts and Hackman is like, huh, I didn't say anything. So subtle but hilarious the way they executed on that one.

And all the stabbings he had to endure with the pocket knife. Haha.

I went to watch Borat in the theatres the first weekend it came out. I don't think I ever laughed as hard during a two hour period. The whole crowd helped too.

There was a scene, I think when they were running through the hotel naked, that I saw a dude a few seats next to me fall over laughing.

What a treat that was.

Another movie that I found hilarious at the time? 40 year old virgin.

Assuming you already have a tombstone ordered for yourself that proclaims you died tragically rescuing your family from the wreckage of a sinking battleship?

yeah, I def remember this being ridiculously fun in theatre…everyone was all in, and having a blast.

I wouldn’t have thought of it till you mentioned it, but now thinking back, I can’t recall an in theatre comedy experience that topped that.

(caveat: I don’t really go to the theatre for comedies, generally)

And i LOVE Royal Tanenbaums, good call.

the use of ‘Needle In The Hay’ by Elliott Smith might be my favourite use of popular music in film….matched only by ‘Perfect Day’ in Trainspotting.

love that line
the film is curiously absent from your top 5 comedies
