OT: Movies/TV Shows

I do like Billy Bob, but can't seem to get into Landman after a few episodes. one reason is that the opening scene is pretty incongruous with what happens thereafter. and some downright creepy conversations between BBT and his supposed daughter too. yikes.

That doesnt get much easier.

I wouldnt call Landman good, but BBT is, and its very entertaining.

Taylor Sheriden sure has a formula

The greatest "Aliens among us" miniseries of the 80s was "V"

I shit myself with excitement especially the episode where she gives birth to the half alien/reptile human baby.

It was all we could talk about in my grade 5 class (1984)
The wife and I thoroughly enjoy Resident Alien. Alan Tudyk is always great.

Finally got to see Nosferatu and my boy Eggers did not dissappoint. He's a legit master.

Depp Jr. is a pretty great actor too.
I found it very dull. Loved Coppola's version is much more. I have this issue with all of Eggers films.

I loved that movie in the theatres as a kid and loved it. I then bought it on vhs as part of the columbia house 11 movies for 1 cent thing. :)
Columbia house office/factory was across the street near Nielson and Finch, so I was able to cancel in person after getting my movies and CDs.

Air Supply Greatest Hits, was one of the CDs I specifically remember wanting and getting.

The Last Boy Scout though is totally not rewatchable. It was an early Jerry Bruckheimer and the other guy production.
I got suckered into that as well (though I was smart enough to cancel my membership as soon as I got those X albums for 1 cent as I couldn't trust myself not to forget sending in the 'postcard'/'mail' about not wanting the 'album of the month/week?' correspondence.

yeah i'm sure many agree with you. wouldn't be surprised if a ton ofpeople walked out tbh.

but for me he's an absolute genius who has deep understanding of what makes gothic horror work. he manages to evoke the same kind of dread you get from watching the old black and white movies, like the original nosferatu. but manages to evoke it while using gorgeous hyperreal cinematography which is just fucking masterful. this shit works for me so much. and i love that hollywood is giving all these unique visionary filmmakers big budgets to do exactly what they want without worrying about making it popcorn friendly.

How about "The Monster Squad" (and it's take on the old classic Universal Monsters)? :p

no reason for that to be enshittification.

those flicks are 40 years old.

They're going to replace the charm of the originals with bad CGI because that's all they know what to do with this stuff anymore. Also, it's yet another example of corporate Hollywood formula where nothing gets made that isn't a some sort of a "bankable" IP.

No new ideas.

I honestly don't get the notion that Hollywood is somehow struggling to produce new ideas, or failing to embrace niche ideas, or even that there haven't been many excellent recent re-boots of older properties. I see big budget new ideas and imaginitevly reworked old ideas all over the place.

Also, you'll be shocked to know how many of your childhood faves were just reworkings of old ideas.
