OT: Movies/TV Shows

I just don't get the idea that there isn't loads of mindless action flicks being made.

there are. nonstop.

what you're forgetting is that most mindless action flicks have always sucked, which is why there's only a handful from 25yrs ago that you keep going back to.

this year:

Godzilla v Kong
Deadpool v Wolverine
Twisters
Bad Boys
Beverley Hills Cop
Armor
Furiosa
Beekeeper
Count of Monte Cristo
Civil War
Carry On
Transformers
Venom
Gladiator
Sonic
Kraven
Borderlands
Werewolves
Rebel Ridge
Elevation
Madame Web
Monkey Man
Road House
Argylle
Planet of the Apes
The Crow
The Union
Land of Bad
Kill em All
Damsel
Lift
The Instigators
Classified
But are they good? (Rebel Ridge is)

The comparison for books, movies and TV shows that I like to make is to food.

Sure, substantial, immaculately prepared, balanced and healthy food is the best for you to eat on the regular. And tastes amazing.

But sometimes you just want a bag of chips.

Yeah, it’s important to digest art, food, etc at all levels of quality from time to time….having a good frame of reference of just how great the good stuff is, is a key element to enjoying it to its full potential.

If all you drink is your fancy expensive coffee at home…..you’ll kinda forget just how good it is, compared to the other swill out there.

My problem is the opposite. I enjoy my terrible swill of coffee at home, but then I go to a legit cafe and have a real coffee, and you remember the junk you've been consuming on a day to day basis...

None near as good as Passenger 57

Deserves the same amount of love Die Hard gets…..amazing 90’s action flick, Snipes at his best, a young Elizabeth Hurley scorching the screen, some great Tom Sizemore…..and maybe the only 80’s/90’s action villain that can hold a candle to Alan Rickman’s Hans.

Really great action, amazing one liners, and some pretty quality tension for the most part.

A+ action flick all the way.

Literally great in everything he does. I don't think I enjoy any actor more than him. He's absolutely in the highest echelon of comedic actors and dramatically he's great.

It was kinda weird when Arrested Development came out, and one had that exact reaction instantly…..everyone remembered who he was, but had largely forgotten about him, but then you see him in that and enjoy him so much you wonder why he hasn’t been in everything.

Seems like a genuinely good dude too, he’s great on his podcast, or as a podcast guest…..David Cross had him on for one of his first episode of his new podcast, and it was great. He knows how to spin a yarn.

Yeah, his quips and shots on Smartless are just so quick, witty, and subtle, they slay me every time. His style of comedy just works so perfectly in everything he's in. It's so uniquely him and I am here for it every time.

It's crazy that he went so long without being a thing and Arrested just brought him roaring back. Listening to him now though, it was probably the best thing for him.
