OT: The M-Fing Food Thread

Btw, @Montana
Your West Coast tip proved to be a fruitful one. The 2lb bag delivered by Bezos for $20/lb is fine and super convenient for everyday use.

When I’m feeling in a more exacting mood a la Presto, I can audible for a tastier, and fresher roast from Detour or Melo

Which tip was this?

Anti snobby coffee view for those people who aren’t professional FI posters and don’t have an hour in the am to brew the perfect joe.

the biggest difference maker is fresh ground beans.

find a roast you like and get a decent grinder and even a cheap drip filter (as long as you drink it as soon as it finishes brewing) will make a decent coffee.

My first espresso machine 1999. Never saw this at the time, but embarrassing to watch 25 years later.
It was actually a good machine and got a lot of use until 2003 when I got a Saeco Italia.

Was too snobby for drip coffee for years, but recently I’ve been toying with the idea of becoming a more reasonable person. Anyone have any experience with a moccamaster? I have friends who swear by it, but I don’t really trust their coffee-related judgement.

We have one and it makes phenomenal coffee. Very easy to take apart and clean too. Paired with a VarioW+ grinder. We opted for separate coffee and espresso machines.

Probably around 95% of what makes a decent cup of coffee is in the bean yeah. I used to obsess over the fine details to perfect the final 5% but then I started realizing that life is too short. Occasionally I'll bust out the pour over product if I'm really craving that perfect cup but it's more of a bragging rights thing than a "the reward will outweigh the effort" thing.

You want a great cup of coffee?

Drink instant first. Whatever follows is superb.

Amarite Gordy?
My snobbery starts to shine when I discuss instant coffee or even Tim Hortons/McDonalds/Starbucks coffee. People really enjoy the products at these establishments and I'm not one to judge typically. For that reason, I will choose to not comment on this particular topic.

and don’t have an hour in the am to brew the perfect joe.

Coffee takes as long as it does to heat the water & process it through a filter.

a great hack is also…..being able to do other things while water heats and then also while it’s brewing. 🙄
