Well yeah, but that is the whole point. They don't feel its worth it.

Do you really think the Cano signing is going to work out for Seattle for the next 10 years? The Yankees got the value out of him, and now Seattle is paying him until he is 42 for what he already did for the Yankees. When was the last one of these deals worked out and was worth it for the team?
 
right now, all these short term deals for older guys who are still good when they're old look a lot better.

hell, even that swisher deal is looking pretty good right now.

i think we have a lot to complain about due to years of rogers' cheaping out on the jays. i don't think that we should be complaining about beeston's contract policy. that will solve more problems than it will cause, and as we saw with bautista's deal, they are more than happy to go beyond 5 years with options.
