OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

I was reading the Dodgers may be a possible destination for Tanaka.

Time for Rogers to firmly put themselves into the "Large Market" group and compete with the rest of the big boys.

Money will in all likelihood be a determining factor when it comes to this guy. Great chance to add a talent without having to give up other assets.

Money will be a huge factor, but player's preference of city is an even bigger one since a bunch of teams can match a giant offer from the Jays should they make it.

In that case Rogers should have a full fleet of Japanese salesman pitching Tanaka on the benefits of living in Toronto.

In a way we should hope Tanaka goes to NYY, because they are going to get a SP regardless ( Ubaldo, Garza, Ervin)

I'm pretty sure its Tanaka or bust for a team like the Cubs

there's two available projection systems at the moment, STEAMER and OLIVER and here's how they project the Jays, Sox, and Yanks current rosters this year - OPS and ERA.

I think it's foolish to call Izturis the starter, and i would really prefer to go with a 5 man bench and drop a RP.

If we do roll with a 4 man bench i'm skeptical that Pillar makes the team.

Well we are assuming that Tanaka is indeed plan A, and that any of these guys are plan B or any plan at all.

I would wager all three would need about 5 years, and between 75-100M total on the deal.

I will in all likelihood go to the Jays home opener regardless, but if the team is playing like trash again i will NOT spend a penny.

If they do not improve the team with free agents, i hope some of our prized prospects pan out. If not, another long season.

Pillar's got this MILB line: 1354pa, .321/.366/.466/.832.

With plus defense at all three OF slots and decent speed on the basepaths.

He played 36gms last year in his first taste of the bigs:

1/6: 6gms, 22pa, .050/.095/.050/.145
2/6: 6gms, 21pa, .278/.381/.444/.825
3/6: 6gms, 15pa, .213/.267/.357/.624
4/6: 6gms, 14pa, .154/.154/.154/.308
5/6: 6gms, 13pa, .333/.385/.667/1.051
6/6: 6gms, 25pa, .240/.240/.400/.640

1/4: 9gms, 31pa, .077/.200/.077/.277
2/4: 9gms, 27pa, .269/.296/.462/.758
3/4: 9gms, 17pa, .188/.188/.188/.375
4/4: 9gms, 35pa, .265/.286/.500/.786

1/3: 12gms, 43pa, .158/.238/.237/.475
2/3: 12gms, 29pa, .185/.214/.259/.474
3/3: 12gms, 38pa, .270/.289/.486/.776

1/2: 18gms, 58pa, .173/.246/.269/.515
2/2: 18gms, 52pa, .240/.255/.400/.655

His line outside of his first 5 hitless games: 31gms, 92pa, .247/.297/.400/.697

He's already on track to be the perfect 4th OF. Would be silly not to take him.

And going with a 3-man bench in order to have an entirely unnecessary permanent 8th reliever is just silly. It's just dumb that the Jays have gone with an 8 man pen so much the last couple of years.

As for it being "foolish" to call Izturis the starter, Izturis is a longtime major league veteran with over 33 hundred plate appearances and an OPS over .700. Goins can't even hit in the minor leagues. There's a chance Goins can stick in the majors but there's a very good chance he can't.

Izturis offered the worst defensive and offensive production from 2B last season, that's hard to do.

Goins and these spring training invites will be given every chance in the world to force Izzy into a bench role.

Paul Hoynes of the Cleveland Plain Dealer reports that Ubaldo Jimenez has asked for a four-year contract worth $17-20 million per season.

Hoynes says it's the "last thing (he) heard," so Jimenez could have dropped his asking price since then. It's possible Ubaldo gets somewhere close to the shallow end of that demand, but $20 million per season would be a stretch. As Hoynes notes, Jimenez's asking price will be too much for Cleveland. The Yankees have been mentioned as a possible landing spot, and Hoynes lists the Blue Jays and D'Backs as potential destinations, as well.

Anyone be interested in Jimenez at something like 4/64 or 4/68?

Is he really that bad? Im no baseball statistician but from watching him a few years ago in Colorado i thought he was really good.

Can't comment too much as i dont know the stats behind him, but he might be an interesting fit with the Dominican Blue Jays.

He's been worth at least the bottom end of his demands in 5 of 6 MLB seasons. If you can get him for 15-17 million a year on a reasonable term, you do it. He's averaged 4.5 WAR over his non rookie season career when you omit his truly shit 2012.

Also had the best K rate of his career last season, despite not having the velocity he used to have, or the benefit of facing the pitcher......I think he may have developed into a better overall pitcher than he used to even be back in his days in Colorado.

If Tanaka isn't a legitimate option (and I suspect he probably isn't).....I think Ubaldo would be one of the better options out there.

He's also only 30, and looking for a 4 year deal.....seems ideal.
