OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Who ever argued with you? Weren’t we all in a state of public mourning for AA?

Nope.

"Look at how good his Cleveland team is" (which wasn't his Cleveland team), AA didn't do shit until this year, etc, etc. There was a pile of foolish nonsense that came out at the time.

Yea I was a Shatkins believer/hopeful. Still hopeful that they haven't ****ed us for a decade but damn it's looking rough. Listening to Atkins talk is brutal. Double speak, lies without really lying. Brutal brutal.

FanGraphs on Derek Fisher:

In return for these two high-upside arms, the Blue Jays received the 25-year-old Fisher, a former prospect who ranked as high as No. 7 on the Astros’ preseason list in 2017. As Eric wrote at the time:

If he ever starts hitting, he’s a potential star. Fisher is already 23 and it’s unlikely he develops great bat-to-ball skills at this point, but he still projects as a big-league regular of some kind because of the power, patience, and speed.

Due to Houston’s plethora of outfield talent, Fisher fell out of favor on the depth chart and has been limited to just 312 big league plate appearances in three years. In that time, he hasn’t been particularly impressive, either, posting a 77 wRC+ and just 0.2 WAR. He’ll likely be the beneficiary of a significant boost in playing time with Toronto. He’s a year younger than their current center field regular, Teoscar Hernández, and likely has more upside with his speed and power combination. Whether he can develop into something more remains to be seen, but the opportunity to do so is much greater playing for a rebuilding team in the Blue Jays than a contending one in the Astros. For what it is worth, Fisher is hitting .286/.401/.522 (125 wRC+) in 270 Triple-A plate appearances this season, his fourth straight season with at least some time at the minor leagues’ highest level.

I don’t remember that. I know I was super pissed and everyone seemed to love AA. Not sure what you’re thinking of.

Start on page 3330.

For clarity, I'm not just talking about AA leaving. I'm talking about anyone giving Shapiro "a chance" or trying to find a silver lining in what was clearly a ****ing disaster from the minute they pushed AA out. This was the only way it was ending. Shapiro is terrible. It's why they took the keys from him in Cleveland.

Looks like a good decision to stop following this team after they dumped AA. What a cluster****. If Rogers ever gets control of the Leafs, sell your merchandize before its value plummets.

I like to occasionally update the "Best Prospects in the System" list (I dont count overage prospects unless they're killing it) and the "MLB last calendar year stats" list, and i was looking forward to updating both lists after the deadline. Unfortunately, after all the deals, there's only one new guy that qualifies for either list - SWR.

Literally everyone was pissed off. Not sure what you’re looking at. The news broke here and it was panned by all.

When the shock wore off, there were a bunch of posters who jumped on team Shapiro. If you want the cliff notes from that side of the argument:

- Shapiro is an excellent baseball guy and AA just didn't want to answer to a baseball guy (preferred "Grandpa Simpson" aka Beeston)
- Shapiro is an excellent draft and develop guy (that argument died hilariously quickly after I posted his actual draft record)
- AA had an ego problem
- AA should have been fired the year before
- AA knew he had a foot out the door before he made the Price trade, only made it because he knew he was gone and was desperate to improve his rep for his next job
- Shapiro was going to "go for it" and only managed cautiously in Cleveland because of budget constraints

The next 30 pages are fun. Some surprising names had some incredible brain cramps.

I’m was optimistic they’d do some smart Rays-like shit but obviously I was wrong. They’ve done a nice job with the farm but the big league roster has been horribly mismanaged.

Absolutely. He was blocked in Houston but he'll get a chance to play here. It would be nice if it works out, especially if he can handle CF.

Still absolutely amazing to me that the Yankees didn't trade for a starter, and the Dodgers didn't trade for a reliever. Seems like the 2 obvious biggest needs going into the deadline. Just bizarre.

Blocked by 5 players? Don't try to spin this. Houston somehow got the best OF prospect in this deal.

Embrace the hate. It's almost 5 years now.
