OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Kay will re-appear on some Top 100 lists after his rebound in AAA, and SWR looks like a stud. The way teams were hoarding prospects at this year's deadline, it's looking like a good deal.

I'm open to Fisher, dude has potential and I really don't mind the strategy of picking up some post-hype sleepers who were blocked in other orgs. They do have to hit on 1 or 2 of 'em, though.

Excellent post Ax (y)

...and hey, it's not like Shatkins watched this team come within a hair of getting to a World Series in 2015, and then sat on their hands and mostly dumpster-dived for bargains afterwards until our championship Window slammed shut.

And it's not like they either let the core of that team walk away for nothing, or waited until their trade values withered away into dried up husks before trading them for the sake of pretending (badly) that they still wanted to compete in the short-term.

Really can't believe there are Jays fans who defend these guys.

They've made a couple good moves, and a ton of terrible ones (moves and non-moves).

Kay will re-appear on some Top 100 lists after his rebound in AAA,

I would bet a sizeable amount of money that Kay won't re-appear on any of the standard top 100 lists (BA, FG, MLB.com). His rebound has been pretty tepid at best (4.50 FIP) and he was never the high upside type that sticks around on those lists at advanced ages (he'll be 25 by the time the spring lists are out again)

and SWR looks like a stud. The way teams were hoarding prospects at this year's deadline, it's looking like a good deal.

He's been great. 18 yr old low minors starting prospects are slightly more volatile than a grenade with the pin out though. It wasn't a good deal, though SWR has the potential to turn the deal in our favour.

We did though, give up an under control #2 starter...we didn't get a lot of hard value back for him.

How much do you want to bet? I will bet you $1 million that he'll be #87 on a list published on The Athletic today.

So the guy who had him at 85 in the spring still has him in his top 100 eh? Shocking.

But fair enough, he was still on Sickels list and I was unaware of it. My overall point still stands. A 24 yr old fringe top 100 prospect with a TJ in the trunk, having struggles at AAA...and a super intriguing 18 yr old rhp isn't good value for a #2 starter under control for another year.

I like Kay more now after seeing him. Apparently his stuff ticked up after his TJ surgery. He could be a solid piece if he is healthy. Not Stroman good, but possibly useful. The fact that Sickels likes him is a very good sign, IMO.

Also of course SWR showed very well in his brief time in A+. His K% went down from A and his BB% went up, which is to be expected, but it was a strong debut, especially considering his age. I don't get too excited about pitching prospects before they get challenged in the higher minors, mostly because you can look really good with poor fastball command and imperfect secondaries, but so far so good. I believe FG said he would be in the 120 range on their end of year list. If he can repeat his success next year at A+ and holds his own in AA, he could move up fast.

I'd be really happy if Atkins managed to be ahead of the curve on SWR. He is a terrible executive and it would be a first for him at the pro level, but if it's good for the Jays, I'll take it.

Wish shatkins was targetting young under the radar guys like SWR and Edisson from the start.

None of these mid 20s guys will be around when/if we contend.

Well you want to be relevant as early as 2021 and 2022. Mid-20s guys can easily still be around and even still in their prime.

Fisher blows. I dont care about anything we traded but im deeply concerned Fisher is the sort of name the smartest guys in the room and their analytics risk o meter are targetting

lol.

Fisher scores well on exit velocity and sprint speed. If MLB games were composed exclusively of batting practice and wind sprints, he'd probably be a regular. It's like a hockey team going after guys who can skate fast and shoot hard, to the exclusion of all other skills.

As for "undervalued", Fisher may have been a DFA candidate in the offseason.

125 wRC+ with a .401 OBP and 30-homer pace in AAA this year is pretty good. Also good minor league numbers (and was considered to be a legit prospect) from 2014-2017.

As a 25 yr old? It's not really. The projection systems had him pegged as a 90 wRC+ stick this year in MLB.

2017 was a while ago bro. He hasn't been a "prospect" in a minute. Call it whatever you want, this isn't an analytics evaluation because his analytics are poor. This is a pure eye test play because he hits BP fastballs 480 feet and runs real gud.

Not even like at all. Trading for this guy and paying Grichuk for whatever reason takes us out of FA like Castellanos or Ozuna, better players.

Also almost certain we sign Brandon Belt
Oh, man. Belt is exactly the guy they will overpay early to be terrible. I can already hear Atkins gushing over his versatility and "handedness."

Mindz just hates everything Shatkins. We know this. Mildly entertaining watching his continued hate. Even on the decent moves.

Have you considered that with my track record on being right about them (from the fucking beginning, I called the entire shit show)....that I might be right about the "decent" moves too?

The jury is still out on Fisher. As it is on Aaron Sanchez. His minor league numbers are good, but I agree with the point that it's time to do something in the majors if it's going to happen. He wasn't going to get the chance in Houston, so let's see what he can do.

Jays definitely are interested in analytics though, suggesting they trade for players because they "run good" is just a nonsense argument. And I wasn't even referring to Fisher earlier, I was just making a joke about Jonas's "point", because it was basically shitting on analytics for no real reason.
