Lindros was a beast of a 3B at Henry St high school

Assuming he's over his shoulder issues, Michael Conforto is an upgrade ( slightly) on Teo, and is LH. He needs to be the one.

Then either deal a C for a CF ( Alek Thomas?) or sign a guy like Kiermaier to allow Springer to move to RF.

I love how in a week we've gone from "it was time to move on from Teo, lots of replacements" to "Well, there's a guy who hasn't played in 18 months but he used to be pretty good"

2017-4.8 WAR
2018-3.7 WAR
2019- 4.4 WAR
2020- 2.0 WAR in 54 games

injuries

I get the hesitance because he's been hurt but he's only 30 and far better than pretty good

Teo fwiw, has once topped 3 WAR, when he had 4.3 2 years ago, but was on pace during the covid season

2021 wasn't due to the shoulder, and then he blew up his throwing shoulder which probably ends his time in RF when his arm was a big part of his defensive value to begin with.

Aside from a covid shortened, .400+ babip aided heater in 2019, he's been a ~120 wRC+ guy.

So...by spring training it will be 18 months since he's last played. The last time he did play he was a 1.7/150 WAR guy with a 106 wRC+. His most important defensive tool might still be laying on the surgeon's table and he was only ever a good and not a great stick to start with. Teo was 20th in wRC+ over the last 3 seasons combined, the 8th best outfielder.

I'm okay with moving on from Teo (though the trade was another special piece of bullshit by those two), but move on and get an actual upgrade if you're serious about trying to win. I mean, the fuck are you thinking about 2024 free agency for if you're trying to win in 2023?

Serious people would have moved the 20th best stick in MLB to left field where his defence was less of an issue in the hopes that he goes balls out in a contract year, trade Gurriel and then go get the other OF you want. Get Conforto and keep Springer in CF, make the trade for Reynolds and move Springer to RF, whatever. Best OF in baseball? Maybe.

Unserious people who aren't serious about winning. Trying to win is risky.

It really is a tragedy, since the deadline to make trades or sign free agents is now over.

Serious leagues would allow people to continue signing players and making trades throughout the offseason.

The fact they were "in" on a guy like Kyle Gibson and are apparantly going to only add 1 SP doesn't concern you?

I don't like Kyle Gibson, so I'm glad they didn't sign him. As for # of SP, that is my point, we don't know what will happen because only a few teams have signed anyone yet.

Obviously the Jays need 1 starter, ideally 2. But they already have a 1-2-3 in Manoah-Gausman-Berrios and could conceivably get a #5 out of Pearson/Kikuchi/White/Zulueta. They should also bring in a couple of veteran depth guys to start in AAA, maybe one is good enough to challenge for a rotation spot as well.
