OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

So is it safe to say that Boras should be wealthier than even his wealthiest client since he's getting 10% of all that shit and has been since forever.

What a fucking racket.
MLB agent commissions are capped at 5%. And Boras employs many people.

But yes, he’s uber-rich. Something like half a billion.

Like, they have what the 5th highest payroll? that should be auto play (offs) (ins)

They are currently actively making their team worse with their moves, and if Joc replaces Belt i see no real path to an upgrade, a replacement? maybe, but that should also automatically come with a RHH partner for him, but they needed that last year and refused to act on it, so i see no real reason why they would do it now

Any positive regression from the regulars that they are counting on, is probably null, from the extreme downgrade they take at 3B, the fact KK probably is neither as good or healthy as he was last year, and even if he is, actively devaluing Varsho, who you moved a top tier prospect for, by keeping his glove in LF.

Assuming the pitching staff just stays as good or as healthy, cause you did not downgrade defensively is probably foolish as well. Next to Ricky ( who they probably want to service time manipulate) there is nothing in AAA remotely interesting as an insurance policy.

Lastly, the lack of self awareness it takes to go after Ohtani ( which i assume they were genuine in doing), think that after being agreeable to his deferred deal ( so the team could build around him) he would choose you after saying IKF everyday 3B, when LAD is like, Yamamoto, Glasnow, Teo is fucking hilarious. Then when you miss on Ohtani, to have the most flaccid limp dick approach to the offseason because, heh, our guys ( under the same coaches) will bounce back, is flat out insulting.

I can think of only one person who'd be okay with this

I was willing to defend management before, and was surprised they seemed to have a competitive offer for Ohtani. But yeah, other than that, the offseason has just been... meh. Sure, KK is a nice deal, but it limits the value of Varsho so whatever. IKF just is weird. He's the guy you bring in in late February on a 2m offer, not a 2 year commitment.

I mean, I know the free agent market out there is pure crap for what we need. Maybe there's still a good trade they can pull off to redeem. And while I don't necessarily think the team needs to go overboard on marginal upgrades (like paying for Bellinger), i'd agree they kind of still need to do something.

Not sure if bizarro bill gates realizes that there are ways to improve your team outside of free agency. But of course those moves by these clowns are typically tepid play on the margin deals (except for the time they inexplicably traded the best prospect in baseball for a low impact hitting corner OF).

It's definitely been an underwhelming offseason, but still early January. They will add a bat for sure, maybe two, and hopefully an impact player. Should definitely be looking at some trade options in addition to FA, perhaps moving out a Biggio or Espinal opens up a spot for another bat.

The jays lost and still haven’t replaced their best bat last year and replaced Chapman (110 wrc+) with a falafel (82). Their offense has nothing in the pipeline and is depending entirely on vladdy and I guess varsho bouncing back

Joc can maybe replace Belt, but he still needs a RHH friend, which they needed last year and did not do, so i see no reason to think they realize that this year.

3B and 2B are both potential hilarious wastelands.

Vladdy made $14.5 in 2023. He’s projected to get around $20M this year. It’s actually a bit of a tough call because he really didn’t earn that, but his salary is still going up based on his insane 2021.

Probably a good time to try to extend Vladdy, but that’s a big risk.
