Vladdy made $14.5 in 2023. He’s projected to get around $20M this year. It’s actually a bit of a tough call because he really didn’t earn that, but his salary is still going up based on his insane 2021.

Probably a good time to try to extend Vladdy, but that’s a big risk.

Better to retain and overpay him than to lose him.

This franchise sucks right now and my hopes for them are at a low, so anything that might see them lose a key piece would be the death knell until they did a full rebuild and traded everyone.

if Rodon is healthy and bounces back, it's might be better. A lot depends on which Manoah shows up, if Kikuchi was a fluke, etc.

Oh for sure, too many wild cards between Manoah, Kikuchi, Rodon and Cortes.....and i know i take their lineup and bullpen.

Yeah, very unlikely to be younger if they’re already MLB players. Varsho, for example, is almost 3 years older than Vladdy.

If Vladdy has a big year, they might also get a high-floor, low-ceiling prospect or two in return.

To me it makes zero sense why these guys are fighting the signing of Vlad and Bo. Show them the bank don’t be a cheap ass organization with your own home grown talent. It’s embarrassing.

Teo and Soler aren’t really in the same situation though. Teoscar was a 130-142 wrc+ bat for three years before he slipped to 105 last year. He’s also younger. Taking one year, on a super team, still gives him the option of getting a 9-figure deal next offseason.

Soler was replacement level or below from 2020-2022, then had a big year last year. This is his one chance to cash in with some term. There’s also a rumour that the Jays and Red Sox are both in on him so they might have to oubid a division rival. Also Soler is exactly the type of middling talent low contact power bat that I can see these guys overpaying.
