OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Fullly support adding Snell. You probably can’t expect Snell to repeat last year, but sometimes these LHP starters just sort of hit another level in their 30s and can sustain it. Like Cliff Lee.

Anyway it’s a much better risk to spend FA dollars on a potential ace SP than spread it around a bunch of replacement level bats.

Snell walked nearly 5 per nine last year, had a .256 babip against, and a 3.77 xERA (which is great if that’s what you were paying for, but he’ll be wanting money closer to his 2.25 ERA)….also had a 86.7 LOB%

Not impossible he repeats his 2022….but imo his 2023 production is never happening again.

also only has one season in his past 5, where he’s topped 130 IP….just too big a risk for the Jays imo, relative to what he’s liable to cost.

If there’s zero market for him and they can grab him on a steal of a deal that overlooks his 2023? By all means snag him, tho.

yup, this

It’s hard to know what to make of any of these international signing. Most of them will never make it near MLB.

Love that Vladi’s brother is also named Vladimir. He has another brother, Pablo, that signed with the Rangers last year. I wouldn’t make too much of the Jays not signing all of the Guerrero children, it might say something about what our Vladi thinks of the organization, but there could be lots of reasons for it. It’s also possible that several of Vlad Sr.’s illegitimate children have signed here or elsewhere.

Anyway, their big international signing from last year, Emmanuel Bonilla, might be their #2 prospect right now behind Tiedemann. Orelvis was their last huge splash on the international market, but he’s never had plate discipline and it looks like Bonilla might.

It sounds like VISA issues are holding up this very reasonable signing.

If it doesnt happen, im already dead inside, not going to lose sleep over this one, but he represents an interesting opener or like Trevor Richards upgrade
