OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Good post but you need a solid Orioles type farm system to do it

Jays have 2/3 of a lineup that wont be here in 1-2 years but no farm system for immediate help

You cant turn this shit around overnight , and you cant be in the dreaded middle

You can only spend so much in free agency but great teams always have a young pipeline like the Dodgers and Yanks to offset the core money players

You cant hide in MLB in a 162 game season , your flaws get exposed my mid season .

Eh, there's nothing wrong with the "middle" if you're a team capable of spending. Be involved in teams trading away good players who are getting too expensive for them to keep. Draft and develop well, be smart in free agency and don't burn 34 million on rando vets like Green + KK + Turner.

These fuckers are never leaving. At least I'm confident we'll get a couple of intriguing prospects before the deadline that we can feign excitement for.

Yeah. They had the best SP on the market in 2019 and got back McKinney and Drury.

The deal hardly comes as a surprise, but the return did catch some critics off-guard. Instead of targeting high-ceiling prospects at the lower level of the Minor Leagues, the Blue Jays centered their package around a pair of players who are ready to contribute now -- although exactly how they fit into the club's long-term plans remains unclear.

Also, this Atkins quote is real, chatGPT wasn’t even out yet:
"We're acquiring versatile athletes that can play multiple positions, that have youth on their side and have offensive track records that are exciting to us," Atkins said. "When we acquire players we focus on helping them be the best possible players they can be with the Toronto Blue Jays."

Yes, sadly. That’s how bad they are.

Imagine Ricciardi with a top-5 payroll and expanded playoffs?

He accomplished about as much as Atkins has on a bottom-tier budget. And as bad as Ricciardi was at drafting and developing, these guys are worse.

It’s beyond sad, but Jays would be a lot better off right now with this guy in charge:

He is bang on to gut the team but not with him in charge

I must be losing my mind (and I am a millennial). It seems I have memory-holed the Jays having a top 5 payroll in the League, and JP Riccardi making the Playoffs with the Blue Jays.

I need to make an appointment with my Doctor, as I might be getting early Dementia.

ps. in 2013 and 2014 The Jays had the 9th highest payroll in MLB, this year The Jays have the 8th highest.

I don't mind Clase. I think there's enough obp, power, and speed to be an average hitter. maybe better. and he's still young even for AAA.

and if that plus plus speed can translate into plus defense, then he could be a nice little player.

Don’t know much about Clase. Looks like his main selling point is supposed to be “MLB-ready”.

Class was 10th on the MLB list of Mariners top prospects. Fangraphs had him at 7th and 45 future value (i.e. low-end regular/solid platoon).

At a high level, this looks like another trade focused more on how soon the player will be in the majors over upside. There would be enough of a market for Garcia that they could have gone in the other direction.

For a rental RP this is a good trade regardless if these losers are prioritizing MLB readiness.

If Class is starting for us in a reset year next year that’s fine. If he’s starting in a situation where these guys are trying to sell us competing then just lol. As an OF4 bench bat though, interesting.
