OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Even that 2022 "down" year was a 132 wRC+, 3rd among AL first basemen. That 2023 was a 118 wRC+, again 3rd among AL 1B. They were also his 23 & 24 yr old seasons fwiw. To provide a point of comparison:

20 yr old wRC+

Vlad: 106
Olerud: NA
McGriff: NA
Delgado: NA

21yr old wRC+

Olerud: 122
Vlad: 110
McGriff: NA
Delgado: NA

22 yr old wRC+

Vlad: 166
Olerud: 115
Delgado: 101
McGriff: NA

23 yr old wRC+

Vlad: 132
McGriff: 131
Olerud: 127
Delgado: 26

24 yr old wRC+

Olerud: 179
McGriff: 156
Vlad: 118
Delgado: 111

25 yr old wRC+

Vlad: 165
McGriff: 156
Delgado: 122
Olerud: 121

He's well on pace to be the best offensive 1B in the history of an org that has had 3 HOF or near HOF level sticks play the position.
Are you his agent?

It’s so disappointing that Vlad is going to play somewhere else mainly because of these bozo’s. he wants to stay, we have the money, the fans really want him signed and to go watch him but nope, Ross and Shapiro’s little analytic nerds don’t want to “risk” millions on one player. Instead spread that to 4 shitty players and they’ll spin it as quantity “good” players over quality 1-2 “great” players. This team is doomed

Mets had something like a 5% win probability in the top of the ninth last night, down two against one of the best relievers in baseball. Alonso hits 3 run go ahead HR. Mets win 4-2. Crazy

what the fuck do ross atkins and mark shapiro know about playoff baseball?

Fun story...not a lot

Shapiro's Indians made the playoffs once in his 9 years as GM. They did win a round though at least, and went 6-5 overall. But 11 playoffs games in 9 years (in the AL Central no less) is pretty fucking dreadful.

Here's the total playoff games play by AL Central teams over those 9 years

Minnesota: 24 (2nd round)
Chicago: 16 (Won WS)
Cleveland: 11 (2nd round)
Kansas City: 0 games
Detroit: 13 games (WS appearance)

Imagine competing in maybe the worst division in baseball for almost a decade, and being the 4th best team out of 5 over that time?

and now the same thing for his Jays tenure in the AL East.

Jays: 15 (AL Championship Series)
Red Sox: 32 (WS win)
Baltimore: 6
Yankees: 44 (AL Championship Series)
Tampa: 34 (WS loss)

So uhhh...better than Baltimore I guess? Even that modest amount of success is only propped up by the 2016 team he inherited. 9 of the 15 games played (and all of the 5 wins) came in that first season. 0-6 in the playoffs since, matching Baltimore's 0-6 playoff record over the same era. Nice.
