OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

But.... Chapman's value is based on his defensive WAR...... hmmmm... I thought we hated those players.

He was....uhhh...the 4th best offensive 3B in baseball last year. 7th if you combine the past 2 years.

His value is derived from being a very good at both.

I dislike players whose value is based on their glove while their bat provides negative value, yes. Chapman isn't remotely close to being that type of player.

Boys, just take the fucking L. You both argued that replacing him with Inner Falafel was going to be fine, we weren't going to miss him, etc and he went out and put up a 5.5 WAR season and then signed the deal he told us he was worth in the first place.

Just take the fucking L and move on.

Thank god we've got Shatkins around to protect Eddies bank account. Would be a real shame if we were paying Chapman 25 millie a year and didn't have coin to pay 8 million to a 5th OF.

Carlos Baerga:
"Anthony Santander's signing with Toronto today assured Vladimir Guerrero Jr. that the team wants to win and don't be surprised that before Spring Training begins he is signing a Contract with the Toronto Bluejays worth over 450 million to 550 million".

Just do it. Who gives a crao ahout 50m over the next 12 years. Give us something to be happy about.

Scherzer's a good enough gamble. He's solid when healthy.
If the choices are Scherzer for 1 year, Flaherty at big money or Pivetta at big money and a comp pick im gambling on Max all day.

Though i do wonder what kind of arm we can get for some combination of our AAAA guys like Joey Lopes, Wagner, Jimenez, Barger, Roden, as there need to be spots for these dudes.

Jurickson Profar is pretty interesting, a high-pedigree prospect who never really panned out into much more than an average player, though he was hurt all the time when he was young.

He broke out last year at age 31 with 24 HR and a 139 wRC+, .280/.380/.459. Now of course most people are going to say regression and one-year wonder, and I thought so too. But the underlying metrics seem to suggest it was a legit breakout. Projection systems like him too, not necessarily to repeat but Steamer has him down for 18 HR and a 118 wRC+. And there is potential for a little bit more.

Provided you can keep the years and AAV to reasonable numbers, he might end being a sneaky good signing for someone.

He'd at least give a good OBP guy at the top of the lineup hitting in front of Vlad and Santander.

I'd be down at the right price if Springer wasn't a thing, but he is and the money is already spent. Santander-Varsho-Springer is the outfield, I don't see a spot for Profar.
