OT: The Toronto Blue Jays

Manoah and Tiedemann are as much upside as there is downside in the SP.

Some scrubs were good some were bad.

Vladdy, Kirk, Varsho were all way way under expectation.
Rose coloured offseason glasses.

The downside for the rotation is Gausman injured, Bassit shelled, Berrios and Kikuchi pitch like it’s 2022, Manoah plays for another team and Tiedemann is in AAA.

Chapman is the only one of the FA's i suspect will meet or exceed what they did last year.

I dont trust Belt or KK
KK at least has a decent floor because his CF defense is so good.

I’m still only interested in him on a one-year deal, and assuming they can get anything for Varsho.

Yeah well, he's earned 2 years at least after his season, and they are not moving Varsho.

LF is one area where the offense can actually be improved upon. I really struggle bringing KK back, when you can get a Kepler for a bran muffin.

Kepler's been underachieving most of his career, was pretty good in the second half last year but there is no guarantee of anything with him going forward.

if you're taking that route, then upside is Manoah returns to being an ace and tiedemann comes up and does what elite prospects do.

But Gausman, Berrios, Bassitt put in regular, normal seasons last year. Nothing unusual. Not even healthwise. Nothing rose coloured to expect the same, on average.

Manoah imploded, Kikuchi took a huge jump up. No collective overachievement either.

Look at the variance in SP from year to year. Having all of those guys live up to or exceed expectations in the same year is an improbable outcome. Expecting it two years in a row is foolhardy, IMO. They have zero pitching depth and need a plan.

I don’t think KK wants to come back.

Chapman I’d bring back as his glove is superior.

Bellinger sure as long as it’s not crazy.

But I’d be interested in Yelich depending on the package. As he does seem to be declining.

No thanks to declining players like Yelich.

Bellinger is available for money. Has MVP upside. Are his low exit velo rates a bi product of a guy that was compensating for a recently rehabbed shoulder? Can we expect with more time for that shoulder to get stronger in turn seeing an increase in exit velo? Dislocating a shoulder for a baseball player is a pretty tough injury. There is so much movement through your entire shoulder area swinging a bat.

The front 3 just did what they usually do. Not one of them had an especially outstandjng year compared to their norm.

Meanwhile, Manoah absolutely spectacularly imploded out of nowhere, as did the #6 SP White, while one of the top pitching prospects in baseball missed moost of the year. While Kikuchi had a career year.

Fwiw, Tio Blindz preferred off season:

- I think you really should only be entering the season with one major question mark in the rotation and that should be Manoah, trade Kikuchi. Gausman, Berrios, Free Agent, Bassit, Manoah with Ricky as the emergency answer if Manoah did nothing but eat doritos and fight with the haters on IG again this off season. I think we all know we're not going after someone like Snell or even probably Montgomery. Rodriguez or Stroman would be fine...Giolito less fine, but maybe we can fix him? he was 4-5 WAR not that long ago. Stroman at something in the 3/60 range is fine. We seem to love giving 32 yr old starters that kind of deal anyway. Don't stop now.

- JD Martinez probably has the most upside, but the age worries me on a 2 yr deal. But who the fuck am I kidding, 2 yrs on an old is probably considered less risky to Shatkins than more years on the 30 yr old Hoskins would be returning from injury. No to Soler pls. I'm assuming we're into 2 yrs to get Martinez here, probably at 11-12 per.

- Chapman is kind of a must at this point, just pay the man but improve the lineup to the point he hits 8th pls. I'm seeing the predictions swing pretty wildly between 4/80 and 6/150. Whatever it is in there, just suck it up and pay him. He makes your pitching staff better and should hit enough on average, though will probably be wildly inconsistent.

- Would another back of the bullpen arm be too much to ask? Yes, I know it is, that was rhetorical.

- Varsho has to move to CF, and fuck LF defence. Teo's market probably won't be crazy and we know he beats the shit out of the ball in Toronto. His shit 1st half and overall bad performance in a shitty hitter's park makes this possible. I've seeing 3/60 type predictions and that's kind of no brainerish imo.

1) Springer
2) Bo
3) Vlad
4) Martinez
5) Teo
6) Kirk/Jansen
7) Schneider
8) Chapman
9) Varsho

Raking is back on the menu.

I think they are sincere on Yamamoto, but lol, wont do it. These guys feel like an Alex Wood or Michael Lorenzen at 2/22 sort of people and trading Kikuchi for a LF ( i keep pounding the Kepler drum)

i suspect Boras isnt letting Hoskins sign for 4 year regardless of offer, reeks of pillow deal, and i think JDM's consistency works best
