OT: Vacations

I know, I sometimes wonder if they maybe miscalculated how many people died.
Lots died, lots are not able to work, many of the boomer generation retired and the rest had to find new work during the pandemic and didn't go back to the low paying, shit work hour jobs they had before

The adventures of traveling in the current climate feels nightmarish to me. My parents went to Cuba last week and it has been interesting:

1. On the flight there an anti-masker refused to put on a mask on the plane. They had to return to the airport after taking off and police then escorted him off the plane after about an hour of him screaming at the sheep who are complying with the very basic and minimal orders. Hope his heroic act was worth losing out on his vacation!

2. Their return flight is delayed by 2 days (so far).

3. The people they went with now have covid and it ain't mild for them.

It really was a nightmare traveling to Asia but you have to balance that with a lot of awesomeness while there, once you get out of the city centers I mean.

After reading these travel horror stories, I’m feeling pretty fortunate that I was able to fly in and out of BC last month with minimal issues. And on a shitty discount airline too.

My flight out there was delayed by 30 minutes and my flight back by an hour, but that was the extent of the problems I faced. No massive delays, no lost luggage, no freedumb warriors on my flights, no one caught Covid (or anything else).

The cost, hassle and health risk are keeping me close to home this year.

However, I’m doing my part for the environment by not travelling. That’s my official reason 😇

I'm probably jinxing it now but covid doesn't appear exist in Scotland and Ireland. Nobody wears masks. Even on the plane from Scotland to Ireland. So far it has been fine.

Took 36 hours after canceled flights and rebooks to make it to Scotland. Even had them hold a plane for us (Toronto to Amsterdam). And by some miracle our bags arrived. Head back through Pearson though so not looking forward to that.

I should also mention that the Scots are the nicest ppl on the whole I have ever encountered.
