OT: World Politics

Re: COVID, I have a lot of sympathy for people working for minimum wage in the public-facing service sector, who are mostly women.

The protests? That was bullshit. 90%+ of Canadian truckers were vaxxed. It was an anti-climate/RWNJ gig that used the pandemic as a pretext. Most of the restrictions were provincial, not federal. They just wanted to grandstand and rage at Trudeau.

who knew that "truckers" meant "dudes cruising around in $100k shortbed pickups" tho.

Or lawyers.

Or accountants

Or actuaries.

Or any of the “professional class”

Then we betrayed them - the essential workers.

If you come from a working class, background, or a background of people who don’t come from generational middle class education it’s likely you have family members who are truckers that you love and care about who may even have been in Ottawa.

It’s easy to have compassion and understand the complaint.

Again, I urge everyone here to listen to that pitchfork economics podcast because it slaps in the face to much of the stuff that was said here about the essential workers, many of whom I know, so resented how long the little nepo baby fucker running this country kept things locked down and have compassion for uncertain people who didn’t “trust the science”. The arrogance was staggering.

But some of the blind spots of the “professional class types” including those here are staggering.

Class matters way more than people are comfortable admitting.
That so called "nepo baby" has done better by working class people than any Conservative politician ever will or would, assuming a con politician would even want to do right by the working class to begin with, which they don't and never have.

Still on this aside but it applies.

National boundaries, national borders, nationalism all involved, so the powerful would be able to find ways to steal from the peasant class

Scott Galloway talked about this in his most recent podcast. Slavery exclusion of the ring on Waze again for those who have to justify why they do over those who have not.

We need to respect these people are willing to do the jobs that we are unwilling to do a lot more.

This is one of my favourite Toronto star articles of the last 20 years:

White working class men wouldn't be feeling so disenfranchised if they stopped voting against their own self interest just because some conservative politician is willing to indulge their inherent racism or misogyny. When feeling superior to blacks, women, and gays is more important to your self esteem than having a decent job, an education, or health care, then you deserve whatever happens. You want to improve your lot in life as a working class white man? Stop voting for fascists like Trump, Boris Johnson, and Poilievre.

I would be oh so overjoyed if this cunt and the rest of her cunt squad would take their bullshit ignorant rhetoric to Gaza and be the human shields that Hamas would use them for, after raping them a couple of dozen times, while they continue to hold hostages and send nonstop rockets into Israel. Maybe one of those 20% of rockets that they misfire could land on their fucking heads while they're there.

There's a difference between war and war crimes, you fucking toad. Israel is actively warning civilians to evacuate because they are at WAR with their terrorist government and can't just sit back and let them continue to strike. What a fucking joke a huge portion of the enlightened west has turned out to be. What a disgraceful world full of misinformation, disinformation, and hateful idiots who are given a public platform, while holding government positions no less. Shameful fucking travesty.

Israel accepted the two-state solution when they divvied up the British Mandate - guess who didn't and thought they should get the whole thing and started a war. You get only one guess.

Truman was a funny guy. The Jews wanted to drive all Arabs into the sea, huh? We've seen how that's been borne out over the years. Such violent aggressors against the poor, conciliatory Arab countries who have only ever wanted peace and to live in harmony with Jews.

Hilariousness, WeHave be thy name. All of your Leafs takes have turned out to be far more reasonable in comparison to your NOT antisemitic Israel takes. Who'd have thunk it?

Ahhhh classism. The discrimination loved by the left.
I hate nepo baby as much as I hate poliver.

The arrogance here is hilarious
And the resentment of “educationism’ is so clear here

Listen to the podcast and step away from your echo chamber.

Nick is Uber left.

And

The arrogance and disdain that Michael Sandal discusses is on full here.

The bar to understanding complex issues in the modern world isn't based on financial class and educational gatekeeping anymore, it's based on internet access (which anyone rolling through Ottawa in a modern land yacht pickup truck 100% has the financial ability to access) and mild curiousity. So spare me this nonsense about us looking down our noses at the poor fucking unwashed like we're the captains of fucking industry.

It's amazing the way you and others feel free to arrogantly and disdainfully shit talk what you have decided is another "class" and then call others arrogant and disdainful.

nevermind that trying to label everyone here as blue bloods is pretty funny.

all the truck drivers I know were pissed off by the convoy sullying their image in the eyes of Canadians (and making it harder for them to do their damn jobs) 🤷‍♂️

I also know essential workers who were upset with how quickly society reopened and the reckless disregard with which it did so. particularly in the context of healthcare.

and almost all of the truckers (in Canada, total, not the convoy) were vaccinated too. and to the extent they had problems with being unvaccinated, that was largely from American, not Canadian laws.

I don't understand the argument you're trying to make about class here - happy to entertain it though.

and instead of alluding to blind spots of the professional class types - please share them. I am curious.
