OT: World Politics

The troubling bit for me regarding recent popular opinion is that about 60% of both Israeli and Palestinian people are against a two state solution.

I mean, the alternative to the two state solution is basically "to the victor go the spoils". But you need two to tango on that.

so by wehave logic:
- Trump represents all Americans;
- Harper represents all Canadians;
- Erdogan represents all Turks;
- Putin represents all Russians!

this is a fun game
It's a stupid game and an equivocation.

Trump represented all Americans when he was President. Harper represented all Canadians when he was PM. That's why leaders exist. That's how they exist. And they don't get put in those positions unless a majority of people vote for them or their party. Bibi is where he is because, somehow, some way, he and his party won an election. So he's Israel's representative unless or until they get rid of him.

If that's the way they want to go then they should both go alone, with no help from any other Western country. Our policy with regard to the Middle East should be simple: we will help in any way we can to find a peaceful, two state resolution. Any other "solution" we refuse to be a party to, full stop. you want to kill each other? Go be assholes somewhere else and include us out.

the only one arguing, or even needing to argue, that Bibi represents everybody in Israel is you.

I don't need that. merely the fact that he is the leader is sufficient.
so you have no actual point to make other than you don’t like how I made mine? really trying to understand here

what?

actually I don't think you have any point to make, besides being angry and triggered that I suggested Israel is in a favourable position to win this for good if they are so inclined. Their enemy is called terrorist in every media circle that matters. They are called the victims of this conflict in most coverage. When Hamas bombs, they are evil monsters who aren't even human, when Israel does it they are heroic people struggling against oppressors who would destroy them.

I am not pro Hamas. merely pointing out the reality of the perception of most of this conflict.

What? How do you represent "all" of the nation if didn't receive "all" of the votes?

Lordy.

I don't know enough to have my own opinion so I generally view to the folks here on this, but I found this interesting to get in the heads of "the other side." No doubt the media plays a role in shaping narrative with something as simple as their language used.

Yeah this is the most concerning recent trend, fuelled in part by years of Hamas and Bibi rule.

And honestly, 10/7 may have been one of those turning points in history. A lot of former peaceniks are now out for blood.

Yeah I don’t agree at all with your completely binary assessment on this

But, yeah, we should be focused on the Hamas attack. They targeted civilians, raped women and girls and beheaded babies.

I won’t minimize her lived experience and her anger is fairly placed on Israel, but her leaders share in the blame and culpability for Gaza’s state of affairs. Full stop. Hamas and Islamic Johad are simply not invested in peace—in fact these sentiments are what they want.

0/10, try harder!
Their enemy is called terrorist in every media circle that matters.
Respectfully, please pull your head out of your ass. This is decidedly not the case. Off the top of my head, CBC, the Globe, and BBC steadfastly do not refer to Hamas as “terrorists”. I’m sure there are many more.
They are called the victims of this conflict in most coverage. When Hamas bombs, they are evil monsters who aren't even human, when Israel does it they are heroic people struggling against oppressors who would destroy them.
Seriously, I’d love to see the articles you’re reading. Please send them, this allegedly pro-Israel perspective would be a refreshing change. Like, I include Times of Israel in my reading list and even they are more balanced than your portrayal.

Look at Nagorno-Karabakh. After many years of a frozen conflict, it appears the Azeris have succeeded in total ethnic cleansing of the Armenian minority.
