But even so, the trade process, especially w a very experienced (albeit desperate) GM like Chevaldayof is not historically conducted in the public forum.

I can chalk up the Briere / Philly screw up to a rookie GM mistake, not being sure player being acquired would 100% waive NTC , but this PLD fiasco has become just that… a complete fiasco.

I'm not saying LA is a done deal in the least. No contract extension talks have even occurred, this is agent driven market production and nothing more. If they trade him for the rumored Villiardi and Iafallo it's only going to serve to raise the paesan population of Winnipeg. I'd be pissed off if that was the return for my team, that's why I think it's bullshit.

Bent nose simply has to take the best deal on the table or wait until the deadline and get a first and move on

I think the overall strategy is fine, they have no other way to compete. You are basically advocating a perpetual rebuild by selling early. They need to build an internal core and ride it as long as they can and hope for good fortune. If it fails, the liquidate and start over.
