Pierre-Luc Dubois Thread

Let him go and be some others teams mistake like Miller or Horvat on the wrong team going nowhere

Habs need PLD when they are contending not now when they are years away from anything
But we’re closer to contending with PLD.

You improve the team whenever you can, as long as it fits with long term plans. Unless you think we wouldn’t be ready to compete in 6 years, in which case we can always trade him, along with Suzuki, Caufield, Dach, etc.

I’ve been tellin’ y’all, Suzuki is no longer in the Suzuki window.

For the cup?

Probably hurts it unless it is a value contact (spoiler alert : it won't be)

Depends on the number. Between 6-7 it’s not an issue. Closer to 8 it is.

To expand, his contract wouldn’t be much of an issue for the next 5 years ish, we have plenty of cap space, young players, and contracts expire. Then, depending on our successes, we might start getting squeezed for cap space, and PLD, depending on his production vs our other players, might be a target to move. As long as he’s tradable, and a 30 years old PLD with 2-3 years left at 7M in an increased cap world doesn’t seem too big of a problem, unless he hit the wall already.

No we are not closer

Your pulling a Dubas lets get JT 2.0 move

Paying big money , ( not top end money in this case ) to an outsider before your team is ready to compete

And they had 16,34,44,88 in the fold way ahead of us in talent potential

Like I said before go pay 10-12 mil and a legit stud at 22-23 to work with , but we know its not happening

Let this team grow organically and develop a few more kids then reconsider adding a decent complimentary piece when the time is right

Next years focus is to get another level out of young D and hope Nick , Cole , Kirby and Slaf take a big leap forward

He is perfect for Joisy at this time

I'd rather pay 10-12 millions for a 22 years stud, or pay McDavid, but we have to look at realistic options.

The way I see it is that there is no one in our prospect pipeline in PLD's mold. He would fit nicely on our top 6 in various combination. If he was redundant to our team, I wouldn't care but he would actually fit very well in the lineup. I'm not going to trade a package to Winnipeg for him or break the bank, but at the right cost, I don't see much downsides.

I think he has another gear in him offensively … but his D game isn’t as sound as I hoped
I agree, but I also think he cheats defensively because the team is so dependent on him, and he takes long shifts, which doesn't help, and tries to compensate for Caufield. I think he can be better both offensively and defensively as well.

But for now, yes he is overpaid. I did a totally unscientific analysis of salary/production a few months back and a ballpark rule of thumb is that about 100K/point seems about fair given existing non-entry level contracts. There is a lot more factors to it obviously but it's a decent place to start.

And the right cost isnt 8x8 which is what he will ask
