At this point, this is indeed the best take. If it's true that his life outside the rink and getting close to his family is his priority VS money, let's see if this is true next summer if he goes UFA and accept a bellow 8 millions$ contract for us (preferably closer to 6 millions).

PLD is just a latter day Pierre Larouche. He's a "nice to have" but he's not a "must have". You offer nothing now. You let him become a UFA in a year, you make an offer and he either takes it or doesn't. If he does, great. If not, no biggie. We aren't a PLD away from anything.

A winner is a component of parts in which PLD can be a useful component. You seem to think people want to give away the store for him, they don't.

He is an above average cog and $6-7m is the going rate. Take economics dude. This whole bullshit of "well if he really wants to be closer to family he will take less". Uh no. That's beyond dumb. The more he would get elsewhere would easily cover the flights. What he's saying is he would prefer to be near family. In other words, if the Habs offer the same as elsewhere I'll go to the Habs and pay a little more taxes. That's it. Expecting someone in their prime earning years to martyr themselves to prove love? Yeah I bet your wives really love you for that expectation.

Live in the real world and stop casting idiocies about what someone should do with their career in order to satiate your insecurities.

Let him go and be some others teams mistake like Miller or Horvat on the wrong team going nowhere

Habs need PLD when they are contending not now when they are years away from anything
