Rumors: 2024-25 Season

But that's the thing. Which Cup contender, or team that's on the verge of being a Cup contender, is going to sign him?

All of those teams who are Cup contenders or on the verge don't have the money for a player like Borvat. They've allocated all of their money to their own core of players. There's a reason why Colorado didn't re-sign Kadri, Burakovsky & Kuemper.

Horvat's going to end up on a team like Chicago, I would bet. Anaheim, San Jose, maybe Phoenix. There's not a ton of teams that have $8M+ to spare for a UFA, especially not on contending teams. And those four teams are light years away from being considered contenders. Let's say they all get their shit together and they start moving towards that. It's not going to be overnight, it's going to take 3 to 5 years each. By the time they get there, Horvat's going to be in his early 30s and most likely on the decline.
Why would the Hawks go after Bo when they dumped a ton of younger players

Its a total rebuild and you dont start with a large contract to a 28 year old

Because next year they have $13M in seven forwards under contract, $17.9M in three d-men under contract, one goalie making $3.8M and $3.2M in buyouts/penalties. That's $38M, with the salary cap floor being probably $62M or so. They're not going to have any choice but to sign free agents, or trade for albatross contracts with incentives. Chicago's in a prime position to do what Phoenix has done the last 24 months: Call teams across the league and offer to take on their shitty contracts, in return for picks and prospects.

Don't think Deadmonton would love to give Jack Campbell away? Or Philly with Rasmus Ristolainen (who probably has the worst contract in hockey atm)? Or Vlasic in San Jose? Maybe Vancouver with OEL/Myers.

Point is, Chicago needs players. Horvat's a guy who could be used to teach their upcoming young forwards and could help shelter someone like Bedard.

Agreed but take on the bad contracts that expire sooner for asset accumulation

You can easily hit the floor and add multiple picks and prospects

Vets will be available in UFA without the albatross deal your giving Bo

Not interested in Merkley.

Him & DeAngelo are cut of the same cloth, just that Tony DeAngelo can actually play in the NHL.

You guys really think JED is going to net us a first? Like scouts watching him this year are like, yes, let's trade a first for him, he's worth it?
